We didn't have a theme at all at the start as I'm not really into the whole co-ordination thing but it has ended up that thistles and callas feature on our invitations, on the day stationery and cake. It doesn't all match exactly as different people made the invitations and on the day stationery but I quite like it like that. Also blue ended up being the colour of the kilts and bm dress but again it wasn't intentional as h2b was wearing green and I choose a blue bm dress but then he decided he didn't like green and went for blue.

Who has given you two choices?

If you don't have a string preference or reason for either then I'd go with none. What would be the reason behind Scottish? are you or h2b Scottish, or is the wedding in Scotland? if so this would be my choice out of the two.

    Hi ya

Ok, are you a girly girl, into bling, pink and happy ever afters or are you or your partner's family patriotic Scots? A theme is meant to represent the couple so if you're not into pink and girly things, it really wouldn't work. What you need to do is think about the different looks and what people will think when they walk into the room. You need your guests to leave thinking 'yes, that was definately their wedding and it suited them BOTH perfectly. The same goes for your other half. If he is quite a manly man, then a fairy tale wedding might not suit him but if he is happy to be Prince Charming for the day, then all is good.

What are your reasons for both themes?

    Well...

first of all we chose the two themes as they are both themes we would like and h2b says I have the choice

first of all I am quite a girly girl who grew up wanting the big princess style wedding. I have a horse and carriage booked already but that was a treat from my dad as I have always wanted that whether or not there was going to be a princess theme

I also thought that because we are both scottish, still live in scotland and because we have lots of people coming from other countries (australia, denmark and holland to name a few) we thought it would be good to put some scottishness into our wedding

hmm its so hard making these decisions

im up for any other suggestions though or ways of merging both themes together??

    thanks

Well I think it's quite simple then really......

It's the Scottish Fairy Tale wedding!

So, if you haven't already chosen the venue, a Scottish castle would be the perfect option. There are plenty of Scottish Fairy Tales that you can go through and choose characters or stories to use a table names with 'Happy Ever After' as the name for the top table. https://www.electricscotland.com/kids/stories/

You can have a gorgeous princess wedding dress using tartan either as the dress for something really dramatic or just by adding a sash

You can have centrepieces which are fairytale themed such as candelabras decorated with thistles and ivy

You can have the fairy tale themed wedding cake but maybe add some tartan ribbon to the bottom or thistles and roses to it?

    Wedding favours

the key rings could have tartan ribbon instead

To make it a bit girly, add the pink into things starting with pink tartan and then mixing thistles in with pink roses

I could go on, however, I think you get the idea. Marry the two together, they go and they make sense to you!

Ruth has some fantastic ideas there. It's great that both themes mean something to you both.
