There are slugs in my house

francesca, 16 August, 2008 at 11:33 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

I've not seen the bastards but there are trails on the kitchen floor and on H's shoes. I feel ill, how did they get in? How can I kill them if I can't see them? I can't really do slug pellets because of the baybehs.

Unfortunately we've had the same problem for the last two years. They start in the spring and come out every night until Autumn. We don't have them as bad as we used to as we've filled in a lot of holes but there are still the odd trail or two in the morning.

I can't stand them, have shed a lot of tears in frustration. But seeing as I don't want to put pellets down due to the 2 year old, I'm a bit at a loss at to what to do as most other slug killing methods are for outside. Do let me know if you figure it out. Its something to do with damp apparently.

You don't live in East Oxford, do you? ?

Every house I lived in there had slugs. Bleurgh. They come in through any little holes - even up cabling conduits, as I discovered when one of the spineless little fuckers got into a plug socket and died in a slimy, sparking mess ?

Filling holes, maybe putting that copper stuff you can get in garden centres around things like drains?

Ick. They're horrible. And they ate the bottom page of a pile of my dissertation notes, which was vexing.

Urgh I hate them we get them sometimes as well. I didn't realise until i got up one morning and sleepily picked something off the floor which was a slug, I squealed and refused to ever touch anything off the floor again.

I can't see any holes so they're either coming under the back door or maybe from behind the washing machine. H is going to pull it out for a look later.

I hate slugs, bleugh. We used to get them at work, they liked to eat the labels on the babyfood jars.

Will go to the garden centre after swimming and see what they do.

We had a plague of green slugs in my kitchen for over a year.Massive ones that got on my worktops and in my cutlery drawer and up to 20 of the buggers each night.

Eventually it was tracked down to the back of the dishwasher where the connection was slowly leaking. It was running down the pipe, under the ceramic floor tiles and soaking the wooden floorboards underneath.

We had to break up the floor, let it all dry out and put loads of slug pellets around the edge of the skirting boards.

I'd definitely be checking your washing machine for leakage.

You also need to bleach the trail when you find out where they are coming in as they follow trails,

we have one that comes in our house every night *** thing, i hate them and my poor H has been shouted down at all hours to move the bloody thing ?

Could u put a shallow bowl of beer down on the floor somewhere at night once baybehs are in bed?

Apparently it attracts them and you will find a large bowl of slugs in the morning, grim but effective for now

All I can do is sympathise as we have the same problem and it makes me feel ill. Our visitors are also due to a leak - we have suspended floors (bungalow) and unbeknown (sp) to us the bath waste pipe had been leaking and rotted the boards underneath so they've been coming in there and through a hole in the stud wall into the lounge ?

Remedial work is currently being done on bathroom and I've instructed H2B to super seal everywhere as I don't want them coming in again!
