Thinking of using peacock feathers in my bridesmaids bouquets

QueenBee, 21 May, 2008 at 21:58 Posted on Planning 0 25

I'm getting married in november, having a red dress and my bridesmaids are in a greeny colour (called platinum)

I'm having a crystal bouquet and hopefully the kids are having crystal wrist corsages or very small crystal bouquets but the two adult bridesmaids would like flower bouquets.

I was thinking of having their flowers with lots of berries and deep reds and golds and to tie all the colours together and give a general theme, utilise peacock feathers in them somewhere.

has anyone any nice pics of bouquets with peacock feathers in or even any nice red/green/gold bouquets that arent packed with roses.

Thanks

Bev

No pictures but what a shame you didn't post this a few weeks ago! when i was in india you could get peacock feather fans for about 100 rupees (about £1.30) which you could have pulled apart and used in your bouquets

don't suppose you know anyone going to india in the next month or so? ?

Funny you should say that but a dentist in work is there at the min and i could text her to bring me some back!

I was looking at them on ebay but I dont want to order them in case they are scraggy looking or god forbid being pulled out of some poor balding peacock.(ultimate bridezilla demanding that they be plucked for my bouquets)

    Were the indian ones nice?

am i being twee kieren? I know you will say if I am

Our venue has peacocks roaming the grounds and I did consider it briefly but changed my mind as the feathers do have conotations of bad luck (think its to do with the eye). I am a superstitious person and know they should never be used on stage.... and they are unlucky to have in the house...guess how superstitious you are. Google 'peacock feathers lucky' and you get various sitesI

do like the idea though in general as the colours are gorg...but......

I need to get my finger out and start doing stuff for this wedding.

i'm looking on here and either people are going over the top with lists and things to do or I am just downright lazy and too uncaring ?

I still have to book my cars and flowers, order my dress (doing this on sat) sort kilt hire for men, think about invitations etc and the wedding is in 5 months

The indian ones looked ok, but i didn't really study them tbh. they were mainly sold by the street hawker-types

i think they could look good if tastefully done, definately. some feather bouquets look a bit shyte but that tends to be when they're artificial and/or bright colours (imo)

the only thing is...aren't they considered bad luck? (if that sort of thing bothers you of course)

Teehee, i've heard the unlucky thing too but i figured that when i got married in 1994, I did all the traditional things, sweated over every minute detail, told no one anything about my dress/colours etc and walked down the aisle with a stupid sixpence cutting the foot off me.

It didnt help or stop my husband piercing another woman with various parts of his anatomy so i figured that this time, i'll be un traditional, unconventional and not superstitious to see if it fares any better?

Kieran, i don't want fluffy feathery bouquets made, just the odd stalk (is that the correct term?) artfully sticking out of the bouquet.

I don't want structured or hand tied pretending to be not structured bouquets but rather a nice well put together bunch of flowers with a bit of interest and not loads of roses. (is there such a thing?)

In my mind it looks nice but i'm thinking that I need to be really specific with a florist to ensure that I dont end up with a huge bouquet wrapped in a feather boa! lol

Teehee, your name makes me picture some loon with an evil smile on his face every time I see it ?

i'm not going to read the link or I will be thinking about it when i'm walking down the aisle and I may be tempted to rip the bouquets off the bms and ditch them lol

I love that first one. Its not too structured and not full of roses.

What in your opinion other colours would you put into this so it isnt so dark?

I wish I could show you the colour of their dresses, its that green colour that you get in peacock feathers that is almost a gold/metallic sheen. a watery deep sea green

The peacock was a symbol of Hera, the greek goddess married to Zeus, who herself represented Marriage. Wish I knew that before my wedding, as the peacock feathers were a large part of the decor.

    just seen that quoted online

"Good luck, harmony, serenity, peace of mind, relaxation and protection are all associated with the magnificent peacock."

Maybe use a Cream Calla Lilly instead of the Deep Burguny, Green Chrysanths or even have Bouvardia which is creamy White nd has shiney green foliage.

Marilyn has a good example on her site ( sure she won't mind me showing you)

They would be nice with the red ones from the first pic you posted and then the peacock feathers amongst them. could you post the two pics beside each other so I can mix and match in my mind. (please)

Sherry, how realistic are silk flowers now? In my head they make sense but my heart has memories of the old dusty ones i've seen in the backs of wedding cars. I see some beautiful ones that you have posted and often wonder how realistic they are.

? for your help so far

i wonder if we'll all look at our wedding pictures in 15 years time and cringe with horror?

(the bride looks like the girl in 'peep show')

Kieren, i think you are my evil friend justine in disguise !

I thought my first wedding was stunning and even had the male bridal party people holding me horizontally in the photos. I thought it was so original and now I cringe when I look at the pics?

    These are all silk:

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/aislebeyourscom/

The Artificial that are peoduced nowadays are much more realistic than the old dusty dew drop roses of the 1970's. They are botanically correct & even feel like real flowers. I won't use a flower unless it looks real. All of the flowers I use are realistic and I have had people try & smell them! If you wanted a few samples then i can send you some to actually see & feel the quality.

I'm sure it will still be the epitome of taste in 2015! lol

sherrie, I would pay you to send me a couple of flowers in deep red colours to look at as I love your wrist corsages and think that I would struggle to get something as nice in real flowers for the kids.

I would consider silk bouquets for the adults as I my best friend and I have incredible hayfever and were worrying a bit about the flowers because of this. (its one of the reasons for me having a crystal bouquet)

Hi QueenBee, I am using Peacock feathers in my reception floral displays and I bought mine from ebay, from here

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160241043302QQihZ006QQcategoryZ75572QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1

I have recieved them and have to say how pleased I was with the quality of them. I do like the idea of mixing them in with your BM's bouquets

I do love this bouquet too
