Thyroxine over dosage for a prolonged period, 500mg per day ?

26 March, 2009 at 18:34 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

Hi all

Sorry to post about this again but i need advice or info.

Background....... My mum is 57 and has been taking 500mg of Thyroxine PER DAY for almost a year.

Her health has deteriorated and her levels were reduced to 75mg a day last week.

I now suspect the dosage was way to high and has affected her health.

She now has limited use of her R hand side ( they now suspect a minor stroke may have went un detected around Dec and have rushed an appointment at the stroke clinic this fri )

She can hardly walk

She has lost around 3 stone since Dec

And as you can imagine she is now an emotional wreck.

Its awful to see my mum like this and if its not a stroke im wondering if the overdosage for such a prolonged period could have contributed to her problems

TIA

Hi I don't have any answers for you, your poor mum. I received a lot of help from this forum http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/index.php its an American and a little bit over the top, but they are helpful and some are friendly! Where abouts are you? I have a list of private Dr's that are specialists in Thyroid, I haven't used any as I am still trying to work out what to do. My 'problem' is nothing as serious as your mums.

    Good luck
