Timeline help?

Poppy-Florence, 16 February, 2023 at 00:47 Posted on Planning 0 2

Can anyone help me design a potential wedding
timeline from ceremony starting to a midnight finish? We haven’t fully decided
what time to do the ceremony but we know that we are thinking of somewhere
between 2:30pm and 3:30pm.

We're wanting to do things slightly differently
to the norm' and consequently even though I've been looking at loads of
examples of timelines, I can't seem to work out how to adapt the structure to
my needs?

I'm wanting to come up with 3 versions to cover all 3 potential
ceremony starting times. Like I said we’re thinking about having the
ceremony somewhere between 2:30pm and 3:30pm, so I want to design a timeline
for 2:30pm, 3pm, and 3:30pm.

The ways that we are wanting our day to be different start with
the catering. Rather than having a full multi-course wedding breakfast, we'd
like to do a hot buffet. And then because we’re having a hot buffet as our main
catering, later in the evening instead of
a second round of a full buffet, we want to do something a bit more relaxed and
informal like bacon rolls or slices of pizza if we can.

We ARE having a few extra evening guests and we would like
to save cutting the cake until they arrive so I need to factor this in to things.

I think that covers about everything.

So can anyone help me at all? I’m sure this seems really stupid
and obvious to most people but I’ve got a few neuro diverse differences and it makes
me really bad at planning, which makes a task like this seem completely impossible.

I’m really grateful for any advice so thanks in advance!

What type of ceremony are you having because the duration would be different for registrar vs religious?
Is your ceremony and reception in the same place or do you have to factor in travel time? Are you using the same space at your venue for multiple uses so they will need to change the furniture around? If so, they should be able to advise how long this will take. If you are having your ceremony and reception in the same room then they will have a minimum time they need your drinks reception to be so they can get the room ready. Same if you have to leave the room for any evening set up, they should tell you if this needs to happen and how long it will take.
Do you know your day guest numbers? Your caterer should be able to advise how long it will take that many people to get served at the buffet.
Have you booked your music yet because their set times could influence timings? If you have booked a DJ that works for 5 hours then that is most likely 7pm-midnight so your first dance can't be any earlier than 7pm if you are using your DJ for it.

    Hi Poppy-Florence,
This was all information my venue was able to provide. I’ve had a rough running order off them, that we’ve amended with them from day 1. Could you speak with them to see what they advise and put your timeline together based on how long it’ll take them to complete the various tasks?
