Tip for Brides flashing invites and save the dates...

ebony_rose, 31 August, 2012 at 10:40 Posted on Planning 0 19

Block out your wedding details. I've seen a lot of flashes where brides are showing everyone the venue, time and date of their wedding.

There was a Hitcher a couple of years ago who had her wedding cancelled, by someone who had got the information from her flashes.

It's an extreme, but hitched is an open forum, and Google-able (that a word?), so just a polite warning.

WHAT?? I am sitting here in shock, I cannot believe somebody would do that.

Although, having recently left a FB group as a result of the b*tch*ness on it, it probably isn't that surprising when I think about it....

It was before my time but it did happen.

Basically they got the venue, time and names of the couple from here, rang the venue, pretended to be her and bam! Cancelled wedding.

I was guilty of occasionally forgetting and flashing stuff with a bit too much info on. It's always good to stay mindful that this is one of the most google-able wedding forums. A great job done by the SEO guys but does mean users need to be careful!

From what I can remember - they got the details off of the invite and then rang the venue pretending to be the bride and cancelled it because "the wedding was off"

That is outrageous, why the hell would someone do that?? Did it get sorted or was it all ruined? How could someone be so cruel?

We don't know that it's someone who posts though - think of all the spammers and trolls we get.

Some people are just cruel! I just don't get why you would want to ruin someone's day! Well, thanks for the warning

I thought people blanked out as a security measure so people didn't gatecrash. Someone cancelling someone elses wedding never even entered my mind! How can people be so malicious?

I suppose that's the other risk of flashing too much info... someone you didn't want to invite could end up finding your details after googling and turning up anyway!

Thanks Ebony Rose good advice I would of never have thought that someone would be so spiteful to do that. I don't think I have any enemies but will be blocking just in case of evil spammers or trolls.

Good tip ER! Apart from my own face, I don't think I've flashed anything too personal yet, not at the invite stage just yet, but will bear it in mind for when we are! This should live on the front page somehow...

Personally i think it is very bad form that a venue would except a phone call as cancellation of a wedding surely they would request something in writing??

    Excellent point FJ.

Maybe if the forum wasn't so googleable, it would be a lot safer. Ahem.

    You'd think.

I cancelled my first wedding in 2005, nothing in writing was required, I did it all over the phone.

I'm hoping it's something that has changed recently.
