Tipping after Clarins Facial?

Cheeky Chops, 29 October, 2008 at 20:53 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

I have been having facials at my local Clarins salon (which is at John Lewis) I have never tipped them. But today I saw another client tipp the beautician. What is the etiquette? Do I tip them? WWYD?

When I worked in JL as a student, staff were not supposed to accept tips. It would have been a disciplinary offence and taken very seriously. Any "gifts" provided by customers had to be sent to staff office and were distributed to retired partners. Although the Clarins staff will not be JL employees strictly speaking, the same rules would apply. I really can't imagine they have changed on this in the years since I worked there.

Just to add I would tip a beautician in a small, independent salon in the same way I'd tip my hairdresser. But at JL, no.
