Tips and tricks

Kelly, 8 March, 2023 at 15:19 Posted on Planning 2 11
Hi everyone, I am new here and newly engaged and I have no idea where I start first 🙊😂. We are planning a 2025 wedding in like June/July time. I just don’t know where to start really and after any tips if anyone has any. I’m looking at venues but then getting lost at what Iv looked and online at packages and what I haven’t and it’s very overwhelming. Any secret tips on how to keep on top of it all 😂 I’m so excited but brains frazzled at the same time.
Thank you in advance x

    Congratulations Kelly!

I found using the Planning Tools very useful on this website.

One of the most important things is to work out your budget and try to stick to it. I started an Excel spreadsheet with all my budget when I first started planning last year. I believe that there is also a budget planner on this website.

    Spreadsheets.

Spreadsheets are your best friend. They're easy to set up and you can have columns for price, things you liked / disliked about each place etc. They're a really good way to keep track of your budget too.

Good luck and have fun - you'll get the hang of it really soon I'm sure! x

Set up a separate wedding email address for everything wedding related. Then set up folders so you can organise stuff as it arrives. To begin with you’ll want 4 folders:

    - Venues: possible

    - Venues: vetoed

    - Venues: to view

    - Legal

You can then add other folders as you start thinking about other things. When you’re looking at venues, request details to that email, look at them as they come in and move them into the ‘possible’ or ‘vetoed’ folder. Then when you have time to have a more detailed look, go through the ‘possible’ folder and either move them into ‘vetoed’ or ‘to view’ if you really like them.

By having a veto folder rather than just deleting them, it’s much easier to keep track of who you’ve contacted already.

    Hello!

I’ve just booked mine for June 2025 and the same as you don’t really have a clue where to start! I’ve made a spreadsheet of everything I want with different tabs I.E venue, accommodation etc.
Im researching each thing I put in there and putting all the details in and costs etc and then going through that!
There’s lots to sort out that’s for sure 😂

    Hey! Congratulations first of all!

It can be very overwhelming.. you’re definitely doing the right thing getting planned and organised now.
I think the best place to start is to sit down and figure out a comfortable budget. Get yourself a goooood planning note book and work forward from there. List your venues in your budget and chip away at viewing them first; as long as your in budget the packages can hold off until after. Don’t write off a venue without viewing it first would always be my best piece of advice!
    Good luck ✨ 🤍 xx

Heya, I think firstly before you start looking at too much and getting overwhelmed you need to firstly decide on your budget, as this is massively going to determine what you choose. Secondly, come up with a list of things that you must have, a list of things you would like but aren't a necessity and a list of things you would have if there is enough budget. This will help you prioritise what to book first and help you get your ideas together. Thirdly, decide on a draft guest list as you need a rough idea of your numbers to book the right venue.

Once you have done that the first things you need to decide on are the date and the venue. Once you have got those its much easier.

With your venue you need to consider whether you want dry hire or inclusive, size, location and price. In the end your venue will be determined by your budget,

When I started planning my wedding we initially wanted Hever Caste. We love history so this was our dream venue. However we had already worked out our budget so we knew on enquiring Hever Castle was wayyyy out of our budget.

So we narrowed down our search to venues with a historical aspect that was medium sized and within 30 mins of our church. I also knew I am not a DIY person, so I didn't want dry hire, so we needed a venue that came with a wedding coordinator who would sort things for me. So you can see how this narrowed it down for us.

If you are considering multiple venues, make sure to create a spreadsheet and put down the price, what it includes, location, things you loved and things you didn't. This will help you compare.

Hey! Also newly engaged here and planning for 2025.

It’s so exciting isn’t it but I’ve also had a couple of moments of feeling overwhelmed. We went to our first wedding fayre on the weekend and it all started to sink in how much there is to do.
I’m about to create a spreadsheet for possible venues as I feel I’ve already looked at so many and keep forgetting which one offered what.
We are fortunate enough to live in Essex where there are lots of beautiful venues but it’s also too much choice!

Thank you for that message that information was really helpful. We have got a budget and viewed herstmonceux castle today and realised yes it was around the number of guests which we didn’t have a number on either 😂 so that’s now next. And also there was so much I never realised was needed or understood which I didn’t get the “dry hire” I now underhand that 😂. Oh I looked at Hever castle online Thata one of our favourite places but wow yes the price was definitely not in our budget unfortunately but still looking.
Thanks again for the tips very much appreciated x
