TMI Alert!! Constipation relief....

Rod, 9 April, 2013 at 09:48 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 68

People. I have always had dodgy bowels. When I was about 11 I was hospitalised with a blockage because I think I must just have lazy guts.

I get a bit bunged up quite often but im used to it. When i was preggers it got worse but was still manageable. However, the past 2 days I have been in agony. I'm bloated (I look like ive got a football under my skin) in pain (from under my boobs to my pelvis) and when i walk / move in any way I feel like my insides are crushed and takes my breath away. I'm ok if I'm still, standing or sitting but every time I have to get up to go to the printer / loo / kitchen I feel like screaming!

Took some Senocot last night to try and ease it (I never normally take anything) and am drinking loads of water but nothing has moved. Had some gas in the night (beautiful!) but no actual movement.

PLease help me. I hardly slept last night I was so uncomfortable. I'm currently drinking a milky coffee in the hope that will loosen things up!

I have a terrible fear of pooing anywhere other than my own home but I would happily go at work right now if I could!

Prunes (in any form), peppermint tea, more laxatives.

I don't really suffer with constipation, but I find that strong coffee always gives me the sh1ts without fail. Maybe a good strong coffee might kick start it?

I always find that a Costa coffee makes me want to go! You got one of them near your office?

I second the Peppermint tea, or Diet Coke. Used to get this problem ALL the time. Are you sitting down at lot at work / home? I found it was worse if I sat down all day- was working in a call centre at the time. *shudder*

Superdrug constipation relief tablets are good (although they take 8 hours to kick in). Walking can help too - can you go for a long walk at lunchtime?

    Hope you feel better soon!

Do try and move as much as you can, exercise does help to get things moving.

I can totally sympathise, I'm constipated most of the time and sometimes I can go nearly a week without anything. The pain and sensation knocks you sick doesn't it.

Ooh I feel your pain, I used to get really bad constipation. I have found generally that exercise and drinking plenty of fluids helps as a preventative measure, but I second the lots of strong coffee suggestion to get things moving now!

Would it help if you massaged your tummy a bit? Might look random so you may have to slouch under desk?

Bisacodyl (dulcolax) is the strongest laxative you can buy over the counter. It takes a few hours to be effective, but is good. It can cause severe cramping abdo pains thought

I've already got cramps! I think that because I have prior issues I would rather go for more natural remedies but thanks. If all else fails I'll get that!
