To Photobooth or not to Photobooth, that is the question?

Charliebob, 15 November, 2015 at 08:57 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hey folks.

Found an incredible deal at a wedding fair £220 for 3 hours hire or a Photobooth, with unlimited prints, props and attendant. Went to book it the next day, no answer from supplier. A few weeks went by, sent another email.. nothing. Finally after a month I called him to book, said he hadn't received any emails, said our day was free and would send me an invoice..now 2 months on, still nothing. So basically we can't go with him, he obviously doesn't want the business.

We have our hopes up on getting a Photobooth, and could only really afford it as our after though because of price being so good. We have looked around at ever other one that is in our county or next too and the cheapest I have found is £399!! That is nearly double the other one!! So what I am asking is, are they really worth it? We are planning on a bouncy castle any ways, and to have a disco in the evening.

Thanks Smiley winking

I always think if a deal seems too good to be true then it probably is. At this point I wouldn't trust the guy tbh.

You could do a DIY photo booth or a selfie station well within your original budget. Others have done and I'm sure they can give you more details.

    Good luck.

I was planning in getting one but budget wouldn't allow it. I'm now glad I didn't book one and the band I was going to book as again my budget isn't there. If by some miracle I get a huge Xmas bonus then I'll find a photo booth I really really want one as only having a photographer for the ceremony and some afterwards.

Sounds like they are just starting out and didn't work out how much the costs were and only realised once they put the offer up and the sudden increase in bookings, I wonder if they will even turn up to the ones they have booked, a bit like new photographers charging silly low prices then we see on here brides complaining their photographer has canceled on them, same thing, if it looks too good to be true then steer clear.

Is a photo booth worth it, only if your guests are up for it, my daughter runs a caravan photo booth and at some weddings it was hard work getting the guests to come in for a photo and then there are other weddings where she never had a minutes break, it was full on.

Would it be an idea to do a DIY photobooth? I got a polaroid camera that guests will be able to use to take pictures of each other and stick them in the guest book. It costs very little and I think will be just as much fun!

Have to be honest and say I had a photo booth and it was so popular on the night so if you can I certainly would jig the finances around and see if possible Deffo loved ours

Might be worth keeping an eye out on Groupon etc - I know you have to be wary of this due to some companies not being able to honour their deals so make sure you do some background research on the company too. However, I was gutted fairly recently as there was a photobooth company in my area who have a great reputation (but were out of my budget) and then after booking with another company they put a deal on groupon! so Worth keeping an eye out! x

I'm another one who had a photobooth, and am so glad I did! It went down a storm at our wedding, it was in constant use all night, and our guests loved their photos. It was a huge talking point and still is even now. We feel it plugged the gap for us, a bit of extra entertainment other than the usual disco and bar area. For us, it was in budget and worked but if we had found ourselves in the situation where it was unaffordable, we would have investigated the DIY route - it's definitely worth looking into if you think you could make it work at your wedding.

I have so much fancy dress and props from various fancy dress parties I'm doing our own photo booth. Ok so you don't get the prints on the night unless you have a Polaroid, but we will set up an iPad with a photo booth app on it, pop it on a tripod and I'm going to get some balloons as a background and put the props in a suitcase (our theme is loosely travel). Done!

    Hi Charliebob,

The big advantage of photobooths is that they can usually print the photos right there, right then! It's also a great way of getting images of the evening guests who will not have featured throughout the day... and it's part of the evening's entertainment too!

An alternative would be to see if your photographer would be happy to do it! I quite often arrange to set up a few lights and get the couple to gather a few props together themselves - which will no doubt be destroyed by the end of the night! All we need to do is hang up a background and boom, we're in business! It's a great option if you don't actually need the photos printed immediately, you can still ask for the files and share them on social media after the wedding! Works great, and the guests have gotten to know me by then so I can work them!

We see some awesome photobooths. Try if you can to put it in the same room as your band/dj...your guests can keep dancing as they queue!!!

If your budget doesn't stretch then a suitcase full of props/inflatables & masks can be really fun on the dancefloor.

    Hi.

I think that they are worth the money. You can do a DIY job.... You can hang the printouts in an empty frame that looks good. I often run a phot booth that prints after covering a wedding. I have made it all jazzy with a monitor and a printer built into a vintage trunk, but you do not need to do all that. A cheap printer and a camera could work. Best of luck let me know if you have any questions.

    Tom

We were having the same debate about whether or not to spend the money on a photobooth. One of our guests mentioned that another wedding she had been to, there wasn't a photobooth but props were provided along side a big, empty picture frame which guests could stand behind and the photographer took pictures of them. I think we will go for this as it adds a bit of extra fun without the big price tag and I like the idea of having a big, ornate frame for people to pose behind as though it is aN actual picture! Smiley smile

    Good luck with your decision!
