To spanx or not to spanx

SunnyBrownCars246, 21 July, 2015 at 22:05 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hi,

So I had my 2nd fitting today and although the dress is little snug (and i'm sure that it feels that way because I never wear anything that's fitted everything I wear is baggy- does anyone else have this feeling ? ) I feel like I can see a little of my tummy though the dress so i'm thinking of maybe trying something that will trim the look of my belly eg- spanx or tummy control pants etc.... I have never used like these before does anyone have any recommentions.

If you decide to go for it, make sure you practice sitting down. I had a lady sit in the back of the camper and she struggled and took them off there and then, and flung them out the window!

I have worn spanx but only on rare occasions. I feel it just 'smooths you out' rather than making you smaller, but that might be just me. If you go for it, I would recommend practising wearing them for long periods of time because they are bl**dy uncomfortable and might be too hot under your dress. Also not sure how you would manage to go to the toilet in them? They come in different styles but mine goes right up under my b**bs so I'd never be able to get it on and off without undoing my dress. I personally would say go without. It sounds likely that you are just a bit more conscious because you're not used to wearing fitted clothing. You will look a lot more fabulous if you look comfortable on the day!

Get them! They are great for creating smooth lines under clothing. M&S do an equivalent product. If you're already slim you don't need them really tight. I'm only a 10/12 but wear them under dresses regularly.

I prefer the type that have a lace waist and trim at the bottom of the legs. Don't get the "skirt" type as they ride up. Get the ones that look like cycling shorts!

Im not a spanxer, but I think I would be wary of spanx under your wedding dress. If your dress is already quite fitted you may find that spanx make you feel uncomfortable due to the extra tightness. My friend who I was BM actually ended up foregoing any underwear on her wedding day due to the fact her dress was quite fitted and would have made it near on impossible to go to the loo without taking the dress right off!

I agree about bearing in mind your type of dress.

I wore spanx, but found that when I tried to go to the toilet for the first time in my corseted fishtail dress that I couldn't get the spanx down so ended up having to take my dress off and take them off!!

Hi, I am the same as you - ive bought some control pants from m&s, but am yet to try them on with the dress. The pants come up to the waist and are like short-shorts. I might get some bigger ones to come up a bit higher on my waist - so that they at the same point as the waistband of my dress.

Im a size 8/10 but my dress is very slinky (i love it, but maybe a puffball would have been a better choice!) So will def be wearing something underneath. M&S do loads of control pants with various levels of control, I would go for that! Some of them are even quite pretty with lace panels etc. xx

I have worn them before and plan on taking them when I go to try on dresses. Mine is the skirt type as I'm a big lady who is also tall, I found the knickers or short ones kept rolling down as they weren't long enough in the body. I find the skirt stays in place and doesn't roll up on me. Also its easier to pee.

There really hard to get into and you'll feel you need a bigger size but once there on your fine and get used to them ( obviously if you can't breath you may need a bigger size lol)

I would wear them to get used to them before the wedding - I regularly wear those support tights for work and they hold your stomach in place - but can be quite painful after 12 hours or so if you haven't worn them before. But they do smooth you out, which is great.

I have tried on about 15 different types of spanx type products in the last 3 weeks including the actual brand. I found the brand to be seriously over priced and didnt do that much. I've tried shorts, control knickers, traditional girdles and the skirt type. The best I have found is the skirt type - high waisted and firm control all over ... it really slims me down but also it flattens my c section over hang ... best of all I can go for a wee really easy in my fish tail dress (well as easy as a wee can be in a big dress!) I've not found that the skirts ride up ... but have found if your thighs rub the shorts roll up ..

    Very um comfy!

    Xx

I purchased a control slip from M&S about 5 years ago for £29, and it was the best £29 I have ever spent!!!

It doesn't make you any smaller but it just smooths everything out and gives a lovely silhouette. Due to it being a slip the bottom half is very moveable so makes it easy to go to the loo!

i found that with the pants it just shifts everything up more so makes you look like you've got an even bigger muffin top than before!!

If you decide to go for them, make sure you a) have the correct size and b) get some good quality ones, so that the correct size actually fits nicely!

I wore some for my sisters wedding under my BM dress and it gave me four bum cheeks because although it fitted every else, it couldn't contain my bum! ?

Definitely give them a trial run too (they can be very uncomfortable!)
