If its a proper single divan then yep, as you said. Our toddler bed mattress wasn't heavy enough though, so we used a bodge and tied it to the slats of the bed!

If so, the bars go under the mattress. If you're using it on a child's or single bed then they go through to the other side - there might be a curved end to the bar which holds it in place on the other side. If it's on a double bed just put the bars under the mattress.

Yep, under the mattress but I could never fold ours either.
