Torn between photographers

Kjgill84, 22 July, 2021 at 13:05 Posted on Planning 0 9
Has anyone else been torn between 2 really good photographers?

Their packages are slightly different, their photography styles are similar and their price points are almost identical, but I'm torn! I've built up a rapport with both photographers.
How did you decide?

That's tough. Try imagining that one of them rings you to say he/she is no longer available for your wedding - if you find you are feeling sad, then maybe that's the one to go for. I often try this when I'm dithering between two options - when I have both to choose from, they both feel equal, but when I think in terms of not being able to have one, it's surprising how often that uncovers a definite preference!

Something else that might help - is there a price difference in what they charge for other people to order photos? I had a friend who chose a wedding photographer who was about the same price as the competition, but sadly, while his price for the day & an album were the same, he charged way more for photo orders from other people. So any family or friends who wanted a pic had to pay through the nose. So if it will be cheaper/easier for guests to order their own pics from one than from the other, that might be another consideration.

Its actually quite a rarity for photographers to charge for prints especially when full res print ready files are included. Some may have an online service for convenience of family ordering but people that actually want a printed photo tend to be close relatives who you can pass on a set of full res image to for them to get their own. Maybe that could be a question to help decide. Or perhaps- do they both have proper websites or just facebook, are they both full time professionals.

I had this with florists… so I flipped a coin - but then if my immediate reaction was ‘oh no I prefer the other one’ I knew I had to go with the other one…. Trust your gut!

But if you cant decide --- err best out of three Smiley shame

Maybe which one has shot at your venue before, or the one who has not as far to travel and so wont be on any motorways. The one who has been doing it longer. Ask if they can show you a a WHOLE wedding not just edited highlights. Editing - do they do their own or do they send them away for someone else to do. Or maybe even, have they had two jabs.

That's a great idea too. Think I need to feel the feelings of what if I couldn't have such and such photographer, or visualise their photographs on my wall etc.

This guy watermarked all his pics - if you wanted an unwatermarked one, you had to pay £12 for a 7x5 print and the larger ones were a lot more expensive. Smiley sad
