Transition Lenses for the wedding

FIONATS73, 7 May, 2009 at 14:42 Posted on Planning 0 6

What are you doing?

I wear glasses every day, and they have transition lenses in them. I can see without them and generally only need them for reading, computer work driving and watching tv. So I end up wearing them all the time.

My mum is blind as a bat and is now concerned about having the lenses for the photos outside, as you know they turn dark. So will look dark on the pictures if we are lucky to have a sunny day. My sister is the same, needs her glasses and has transition lenses she is my bridesmaid. Also h2b wears them and needs them, but says he will take them of for pictures.

I think you should just take the glasses off for the outside photos - if its sunny and they go dark it might look silly in photos.

Or have you tried contacts before? you can get daily disposable ones?

My mum has tried them in the past, but did not like them. H2b can wear them so more than likely will go down that route and so can my sister. Me can not put them near me 3 trys at opticians, 3rd time was advised never be able to wear them. I have funny shaped eyes, also very sensitive eyes to smoke etc. When I last tried them, for the 30 minutes the tears wear down to my chin and they were very red. I think they are great and would love to able to wear them

If you wear glasses every day, then I'd have them on. Although I know what you mean about the transitions lenses. If it were me, I'd get some glasses with plain lenses in so that they didn't go dark outside.

I was going to get contacts, but Iain was keen that I look like me if you see what I mean. Can't take my specs off or I might marry the wrong man!

I used to work in a opticians and one lady took about 3 months to get it right and be able to get them in.

It just takes alot of practice nad patience... they do lots of different brands aswel so you could maybe try another brand??

have you got glasses that are not transition lenses?

Don't feel as though you have to try contacts if you don't want to. One of my bugbears is when people ask me if I can see without my glasses - ie take them off in a makeover american sitcom style.... Well of course I can't see without them or I wouldn't be wearing them!

In fact one of the first things that Iain's sisters said to me was are you going to wear your glasses!?

As I said, contacts aren't really an option anyway. So don't feel pressured into wearing contacts as you won't want watery eyes and discomfort! Glasses are fine! I bet you look really nice in them!

My glasses don't bother me it would be nice to be able to wear contact, but as I say after 3 attempts 3 different opticians and Specsavers finally told me if they knew prior to putting them in I was sensitive to smoke etc they would never put them in. My mum is thinking of getting some done with a plain lense, as I said to her yesterday its always handy to have a spare set. Me I don't think I will bother wearing mine, can see without them OK. Won't be driving working on computer etc, its more my mum.

Concerning my eyes sensitivity etc, I know people get effected with onions. But I can not be in a room, whilst they are being cut I have to go outside with a wet tissue. I remember fmil had some in her kitchen, we walked in the frontroom and they started streaming. But I have to say its an excuse to get h2b to cut them up anyway!

Part of the discussions with couples before the wedding involves transitional glasses. It can be a real problem, specifically on bright days. The best option is probably normal glasses, particularly if everyone is used to you wearing glasses, seeing you without any in the photographs "can" look unnatural.

This issue also applies to parents, so consider them as well in your planning for this situation if they too wear glasses.
