TV- Freeview and Virgin cable- ho wto get it upstairs

Knownowt, 3 July, 2009 at 09:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

We would like to have a television upstairs. There's an aerial socket but the picture is dreadful and I'm trying to work out how to improve it.

1. Would a freeview set top box give us a better picture? We live in London so should be able to receive it, I imagine, or does Freeview just give you more channels through your aerial, not a better picture?

2. we have Virgin cable TV downstairs but no cable socket upstairs. Presumably there's no way to get the signal upstairs wirelessly?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Freeview wont give you a better picture, if the aerial is pants so is the freeview signal, although you can get signal amplifiers fairly cheaply, weve had limited success though.

Im not sure about the cable, there are ways to get the sky signal in other rooms (although you cant have a different channel unless you get that multiroom thing). I shall have a look though as I am bored lol.

Right apparently you should be able to use the same sort of technology that you can use for sky, however they dont always work with all types of sky/virgin etc box

You could try one of the Digisender things. I'm on a REALLY slow PC at the moment so can't open another window to google it for you to post a link. But I had one for ages at home and it was fab. It sent the image from downstairs to the upstairs bedroom wirelessly. The only downside is you have to watch the same channel on both TVs.

I *cough* might have my old one for sale on the bay of E at the moment if you're interested. (Am I allowed to say that?)
