TV show - Battle of the Brides

10 May, 2012 at 22:40 Posted on Planning 0 13

A new show is being advertised on Sky called Battle of the Brides, the blurb for it is that it will be two brides, same dress (even though the ones shown evidently are wearing different dresses) same venue, same date. I am addicted to watching wedding shows but starting to think that the more that are on such as this, the more weddings are becoming a mass entertainment tool and losing their seriousness. I can't see a happy wedding day beign two strangers having to compromise for one another and good television will not permit two brides that get on to be paired together. Did anyone else see the publicity for this show and was wondering would they share their big day with another couple they had never met?

I've just seen an advert for it - looks awful!! Weddings should be occasions about commitment and love, to be taken seriously (even if not traditionally). This just seems to be a means for people to get their face on the telly...

I've thought this a long while about 4 Weddings and even DTTB- it's certainly not about creating a wedding that they both want, 'to hell with what anyone else wants' as it should be (let alone having important wedding decisions swayed on grounds of what would be popular or even worse, what would be 'good telly' as someone said, to the gormless watching masses (sorry).

I find it all cringeworthy and demeaning for all involved, I pity the doubtless embarrassed families who I doubt have a say about the filming and resulting 'playing-up'. In short, as much as OH has banned it for fear of it corrupting me, I wouldn't watch it anyway as I think it's trash and shouldn't be encouraged by watching. Sorry if I've offended but those are my views.

    DITTO the above

i know in my head its hypicritical but i love wedding shows but hell no would i ever go on one!!

DTTB now i think compared to some i have a very 'interested' H2B but plan the whole my god i would end up at the rugby club playing drinking games in a new pair of white wellies and a 10k bar bill lol

i have been watchingCake Bake off on wedding tv where the cake is a surprise and i like that idea

To head to birdes off against each other is hideous can you just imagine what monsters will be created no doubt they will be matched for most likely ro scream and beat each other up over a cake pairs - did n e one ever watch the wedding house? i hated that so whirl wind and i just didnt get it

I can understand people not fortunate enough to have any spare money to have the wedding but lets face it we are all on a budget and if its important enough then ou can do it for a very small amount if you are not into details

    xxxx

I know what you mean. When we got engaged in 2009 I started watching Four Weddings. Now Im paranoid that the guests are going to be judging me on my Dress, Food, Venue, and Overall Experience..... lol xx

Why why why would anyone do this?! Just hideous. I used to like dttb but I really can't stand it anymore, the predictability, the obvious game playing etc. if we really didn't have any money to spend on our wedding we would do it as cheaply as it can possibly be because we just want to be married, the wedding reception is just a party ?

I often wonder what other members of the bridal party think too.

A colleague of mine was an usher for Spencer (of Big Brother) on Celebrity Four Weddings. He is incredibly shy and was absolutely moritified about the whole thing but agreed to do it because they are really good friends. (It's funny though on the show you can see he is trying to avoid the cameras all the time).

I still love DTTB but I was watching it once when my Dad came over and he said I would hate it if you ever did that. When I questioned why he said why would you want the most important day of your life to be not how you chose it. He then said he would sell the house and give me the money so I could afford it rather than going on the show. I know he would have been gutted if I couldn't have had the wedding I've dreamed of since I was about 5!

We were discussing this at work yesterday, i wouldnt ever be that desperate to get married i would share my day with someone i dont know, and as they want to make it good TV it seems to be they pick a couple's who are totally opposite!. It would totally ruin my day to have to share it with a stranger and maybe wear something i dont want to wear or have it somewhere i dont want it just because i want to be on TV. I must say i am also addicted to watching all the wedding shows, i think four wedding is my fave. I have noticed thought that with four weddings the americans are always much nicer about each others weddings than us UK's brides. I also quite the american one as they have really quirky venue's as im guessing there are alot more places to get married over there. Sometimes i do wonder if people will be judging the wedding in that way as they are used to watchin those shows!, but i think that everyone's wedding is special and is an enjoyable event no matter where it is, because its a wedding. I think your probably right Graceyfly weddings have got loads more commercialised and lost their meaning due to these shoes..

But i must say they do make enjoyable trash TV!!! lol ? xxx

    ?

I do still watch DTTB but I have really gone off Four Weddings...all that any of the contestants ever do is go on about how they hate the other weddings because it's not what they would chosen...why is that a bad thing? I've seen plenty of wedding themes/styles on here that are gorgeous but not what I would have chosen. Doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. People on Four Weddings are just looking for any excuse to slag off the other contestants and it's really tedious.

I wouldn't share it with anyone full stop! I want my day to be about me and that's it! The full attention is supposed to be on the bride and groom! Why would I want to share that! Its a celebration of the couple's love, this is something personal and can not be shared! I love watching those tv shows though, I wouldnt participate and I do agree with all your statements but I can not resist watching it, it is just interesting how rediculous it can be!
