Typically flowers don't come in my bridesmaids colour ... Why do I choose things that don't exist!!!!

Hypnopoison, 3 March, 2012 at 20:44 Posted on Planning 0 13

Had my first flower appointment today and typically flowers don't come in petrol/peacock blue! My florist is looking into colouring white flowers ... Anyone else had this done and is it wildly more expensive? Arrrggghhh Smiley surprise(

No idea about colouring flowers.. could you not use white flowers with feathers or gems or ribbons or something in them for the blue colours?

Supposedly you can dye roses by placing them in food colouring and water, they should drink the blue dye and hold onto it. I also know they can be sprayed but I would imagine this costs a fair bit.

You have the same colour scheme and me and my bridesmaids are having white flowers with peacock feathers in to pick up the colour theme.

I've got a blue colour scheme, I'm having delphinium and gentiana. I really wanted blue roses but was told not to have dyed flowers in my bouquet as if it's hot or humid the dye can run and then could get onto your hands or dress!

My florist is experimenting over the next few weeks with painting and also the coloured water thingy with roses. She said she will test themand wont let me have them if she thinksnthere will be an issue. I was worried about running colours etc. I don't want to use feathers. The primary colour in my bouquet has to be the blue though. Totally stumped! Smiley surprise(

I am starting to think it will have to be silk. Would a normal florist do them or do I need to find someone specialist?

I think they usually specialise in artificial flowers. There's lots on here so I'm sure some will be along soon or just do a google search. You should be able to see their catalogues on the websites. I'm getting mine from Rainbow flowers - they look gorgeous.

Our theme is a deep turquoise/jade green and were having ivory flowers as i thought it would be a nice contrast with them having ivory shoes etc. There gunna have turquoise ribbons around the stems. :-)

There are some artificial flowers available in petrol blue but they are leaning more towards teal than peacock blue. The luminous shade of peacock blue is quite difficult to find in artificial other than in the actual peacock feathers themselves. This is the colour of the petrol/teal flower:-

The choice of flowers is quite limited though in these shades as the trend now is for more 'true to life' shades in flowers rather than 'fashion' flowers. You florist should be able to get these flowers for you from the same warehouse where she buys her florist sundries from so she could mix the artificial with the fresh for you and this is often done. The coloured dye method where the flowers drink up the colour is much safer than spraying. A lot of florists refuse to spray bridal flowers because of the risk of the dye coming off on wedding dresses and hands etc which can happen easily especially if it rains. Your florist sounds like she is trying every possible avenue for you so she hopefully she will be able to come up with a plan for you. Coloured water dyeing is very much 'test and see' as its just a case of getting the exact droplet of dye correct to get the shade required!

My colour theme is petrol blue and I am having artificial flowers, however as Rainbow Florist mentioned I want mine to look real so am going for Ivory for BM and mine, but mine will have ribbon and thistles in. Although thistles are not the same colour the ones I have are of a simular tone.

My mum is a retired florist and is quite capable of doing fresh and artificial flowers, I think most florists should be able to do both.

    Hello

Thank you for your help ladies Smiley surprise)

Funnily enough I have sent a pic of very similar blue orchids to my florist last night. Fingers crossed we can get them Smiley surprise) ..... thank you Smiley surprise)

My plan is that my posy will be mostly blue and my bridesmaids will be white. I wanted to include a possible 2nd and third colour hints so these orchids bring in the purple that I wanted. I also wanted to include a little lime green so we may be using green hyperium berries too. The whole thing was dependant onn finding bloomin dark blue flowers as using mostly white for my bouquet would be lost against my dress!

Basically this but with deep blue the main colour (without lillies):
