CherylSuffolk, 18 September, 2011 at 17:19 Posted on Planning 0 9

Does anyone out there know if its possible to either get married or at least have the reception on a beach in the uk? are there rules against putting up marquees for example. Any thoughts appreciated.

thanks x

    Hi Cheryl,

In England you can only get married under a fixed structure, but I imagine there will be hotels by the beach which may have a permanent gazebo or something by the beach.

Just found this which might help https://www.weddingvenues.com/reception-venues-Beach-0.html

    Hi

I guess you are in Suffolk? We are having our reception at Thorpeness country club which is just opposite the beach. They have a little grassed area just above the beach where we wil hopefully by having drinks on arrival. It's not quite on the beach but it's close. And we'll be able to have some pictures taken on the beach.

I know here in Brighton you can get married in the Bandstand on the beach. Not known of any to take place on the pier or the beach itself. Never seen a marquee erected on a beach either and thinking about it this wouldn't be practical anyway (how would you pin it down?)

There are a number of quality venues close to beaches in both Cornwall and Devon. There are certain rules to follow.I can vouch for most of the registry offices in cornwall being extremely ugly. Haven't seen a nice one yet. How about getting married at a hotel with its own private beach - you could have the service before or after a blessing. The only one that springs to mind however is the Whitsand Bay Hotel. Whitsand has a gorgeous public beach.I'm not from the area and its all a bit last minute getting this organised. Would be great to hear from anyone who has done this or is planning a beach blessing ceremony .

It has to be in some sort of building/fixed thing..we got married at Tunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe, Devon. They have a gazebo overlooking the beach/sea..it's a truly amazingly beautiful stunning location and all the staff at the venue are fabulous...I can't tell you how wonderful this place is...but then I would say that I suppose as it was my wedding..haha..but here's the link to the website in case you fancied a nosey http://www.tunnelsbeaches.co.uk/weddings.html

I have shot weddings where the reception was on the beach, and one recent wedding where they rented a mansion overlooking the beach and set up a triple tipi for the reception. But as far as the actual wedding on the beach,, there is talk of Bournemouth being the first beach in the country to have a set up for weddings and civil ceremonies. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-12675132

Someone I know is closely attached to this project, so hopefully it will be in motion next summer. Smiley smile

    Hi,

I am in love with Thorpeness country club- its so beautiful-I think this is my favourite venue choice, and it is already decorated with my colour scheme! (I think it's meant to me)

how flexible have they been on food and drinks packages? Drinks packages and corkage seem pretty pricey.
