Unrealistic budgeting?

Hi everyone

I really could use some advice on budgeting and pricing of services.

I would really like to use a makeup artist and hairdresser for me and my two grown up daughters for my wedding day in September. As I’ve never used services like these before I am at a loss as how to get started with pricing. Due to time constraints, both would need to come to the house as we wouldn’t have time to visit a salon as the ceremony is at 11am.

My hair is quite short and thin, following several illnesses and major operations, so there’s not a lot you can do with it. My daughters both have shoulder length hair and have already decided on a style, so I think it wouldn’t take long to do our hair on the big day. Whilst I appreciate that people need to earn a living, some of the quotes and demands seem quite high to say the least. Coming in at around £250 for hair and the same again for make up, with trials at up to £50 per person on top.

I would particularly appreciate comments from anyone in Liverpool or surrounding area for a price comparison.

Thanks all!

Ali

I'm in South Wales, which isn't very wealthy and prices I was quoted for just hair were £40 for brides trial and £50 for the day. £30 for bridesmaids hair (£20 trial) and similar for mother of the bride. I can't help with makeup as not wearing any so didn't get quotes.

This was way over my budget, but then I was chatting with my hairdresser and she offered to do my hair for £30 on the day plus £20 for a trial if I want one. (I will have to go to her salon though, but it's literally a 10 minute walk or two minute drive)

It doesn't surprise me that Liverpool would be more expensive, but it does seem a bit steep! Are there any local hairdressers you could ask? My hairdresser isn't a 'wedding hair' specialist, but she does do weddings (and I've seen photos which look great).
