There are 42 million possible combinations currently available to buy.
Most people do not have the time or inclination to seek out 'diamonds in the rough' ...
Most people also just immediately think of something to do with their name, initials, DOB etc and are not prepared to 'think outside the box' ...
I have had offers for H15 LDN and a valuation which places it at 10 times what I paid for it ... I've yet to get an offer that I want to accept so I've not sold it yet.
I think you should get to understand the market a bit better before you start branding things that you don't know a lot about as 'naff' ... just a thought.
The only time I *ever* look at numberplates is if I've been in an accident or someone is driving like a toss3r. The fact that they've got one of those crud numberplates only emphasises the latter.
Number plates are illiquid assets that take anywhere between 9 and 18 months to sell. I do not need the cash so there is no need to sell for less than what I think I can get ... you can't resell the number after all!
And one can't reinvest profits as easily in this industry as in others as there are a limited number of plates that have 'slipped through the net' and are genuinely undervalued in my opinion.
So us, being a potential market think they're naff. Your peers on the car site also think they're naff. We all think you're asking too much for them. You have no sales. What was the question again?
