Ushers and Groomsmen

Hi everyone, I'm a bit confused and looking for your help!

Is it typical to have both groomsmen and ushers? We were planning to have 1 best man and 2 others that we had been calling ushers but from speaking to a few married friends they said that they had groomsmen who were part of the wedding party and wore the same suit etc and then had separate people to be ushers.

Can you let me know what you did or are planning to do and how it worked out?

Also do you think it will be an issue having 3 male members of the wedding party but only 2 bridesmaids?

Any opinions would be great!

I thought the Groomsmen were any of the Men that the Groom chooses to have at his side, so the Best Man and the Ushers.

The Groomsmen are all the men that the groom has with him and includes ushers. Have what you want - there's no set rules. You don;t have to have any if you don't want to.

That is what I originally thought as well but a few people have told me this isn't correct and ushers should not be part of the wedding party and should not wear the same suit as the groom or bestman.
