Vegetarian Canapés

PicklingPie, 15 March, 2013 at 14:32 Posted on Planning 0 23

Hello,

Our venue is not so great when it comes to veggie options, (I'm veggie and so are many of the guests) - however the venue have said that I can suggest some options for canapés and the chef will make these.

Veggies and non veggies - please can you suggest me some yummy vegetarian canapé options?

Falafel with a yoghurt dip (dill? cucumber? lemon?)

Any kind of bread/crostini with tomatoes/some kind of cheese/basil

Squares of tortilla with garlic mayo (make it lightly flavoured).

Marinated olives and goat's cheese mini skewers, sunblush tomato tartlets, leek and stilton tartlets, spinach and feta filo parcels, mini baked potatoes with sour cream & chives, roasted cherry tomatoes stuffed with tapenade? Might turn veggie myself! ?

Next question:- we are having a choice of 5 canapés. I suggested 2 meat/fish and 3 veggie as most non-veggies still love the veggie options! OH thinks we should have 3 meat/fish and 2 veggie... any suggestions?!

As a veggie, please tell your OH he is wrong!! Blimmin' meat eaters are always eating the veggie options and leaving us hungry. 'Tis one of my pet hates when limited veggie food is provided and meat eaters get to it first.

I'd go with more veggie canapes than not - often fussy meat eaters will prefer the veggie options - can be easier with some allergies as well.

For the evening I went 50/50 veg/meat pasties, plus a veggie tart or cold meats as I know I'm more likely to fancy the veggie options than the meat options after a heavy meal! This seemed to work quite well - we didn't actually run out of the meat pasties - and I'd rather over cater for the vegetarians as meat eaters can happily eat a veggie pasty if still hungry!

Nom nom indeed. Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'm going in next week to sample the choices! Also I'm definitely going for more veggie canapes than carnivore canapes.

    Thanks everyone ?
