Venue charging fee for early access of bridal prep on the morning of my wedding

Hollie, 11 February, 2021 at 13:27 Posted on Planning 0 4
Hi all,

I just wanted some advise!
Our wedding venue has confirmed that they will charge £50 for early access to the bridal prep room on the morning or our wedding. Is this standard practice for all venues?
Thanks! X

    Hi Hollie,

I'm not surprised of the charge, but I would be wondering why they didn't mention this at the beginning, especially given that you are likely to want access to the room in the first place.

I would check your contract as they probably did define arrival and finishing times. Anything outside of this technically they can charge additionally for. Might be worth using the opportunity to find out any other hidden costs that they haven't made you aware of so you know where you stand.

For example, if your wedding over runs the finishing time, whether they will charge you for this? This is especially important if you have suppliers who need to pack down. Just because guests have left by the finishing time, doesn't mean the suppliers will be able to pack up and leave instantly too.

    I hope this helps.

    With love,

    Hi Hollie

I have a similar situation, but with our reception venue. They are charging us an extra £100 to have the room an hour earlier. We had no choice other than to pay it, as we're getting married at a National Trust property that only holds ceremonies at either 11am or 5pm. We've opted for 11am, so the timings mean that we will need the reception venue from 2pm rather than 3pm.

At least we knew about the extra charge at the time of booking!

I think it may just be a "grit your teeth" moment - unless of course you can get ready elsewhere?
