Venue corkage

Kanlak17, 8 November, 2016 at 11:03 Posted on Planning 0 2

I am looking to book my wedding at Froyle Park next year and wondered if anyone had used the venue recently on a dry hire basis? They are telling us that we can provide our own drinks for the meal and drinks reception but then have to switch to a bar managed by them for the evening. I haven't come across this at any other venues I am not sure how well this would be managed. Any advice would be appreciated

We are having the same thing at our reception venue. In our contract with them, it states that they will chill, pour and serve the drinks that we provide for the champagne reception and wedding breakfast. All we have to do is take the drinks to them a few days before and they will sort out the rest. Then they have a cash bar that they will run from 7pm.

Was this an option you picked or was it part of the package? We didn't have a choice, but the lady who runs the venue manages the whole thing so I'm not worried about the organisation.

Do you have a coordinator at the venue? They should be able to talk you through how it will be run on the day xx

Have you asked them about the corkage fee? You must get it in writing! Corkage can vary from £5 to £20 a bottle.

We're doing this. We had the option to include wine and welcome drinks in with our wedding breakfast package, but it was a set menu of wines which were VERY pricey and a lot of our guests don't drink, so a lot of it would have gone to waste. So we went for the corkage option. This way we can supply our own wines and welcome drinks, and return any unused bottles to Majestic (or whoever we go with) for a refund. The venue is charging us £2.40 per guest instead of per bottle, which works out much cheaper for us.

Then the cash bar will be staffed all day and evening if any guests want to buy something from there.
