Venue dilemma

RomanticBlueHair33815, 19 November, 2021 at 20:59 Posted on Planning 0 9
So the remaining money needs to be paid for our venue on Monday which is a 4.5k but we are having doubts since fiance's family are coming over from Germany.

February wedding. But it appears Germany may go into lockdown. So we called the venue to ask if we could change the date. They said no. Obviously we explained the situation but still said the date can't be changed. Meaning we would risk losing 4.5k if we paid the remaining balance.
I have looked in our contract and t&cs and there is no mention of changing dates.
Do you think the venue is being unreasonable? Or maybe I'm just expecting too much.

If there is othing in the contract around cancellation change then sadly you can't do much, and whilst it is slightly unreasonable they are within their rights to refuse. Is there any covid clause? I made sure I had them built in to over eventuality of changing but it is in line with government advice or restrictions, which sadly is not the issue here so they don't have to change. I guess you need to weigh iup if you postpone or not. Have they given a rwason why you can't change? ¶if possible I would go there as you may get a better conversation fave to face. Wishing you luck as this is a hard decision

Thank you for replying. There is nothing in the contract about COVID since it was booked prior to. There is literally nothing in the contract about changing dates either Smiley sad

I have asked to speak to the owner of the property so hopefully I can speak with them. The lady I spoke to didn't even explain why they can't change. It really seemed like they couldn't care less.

I think you're righto go higher up, apart from anything else, the person you spoke to may not even know the full whys and wouldn't have the authority to change it anyway possibly. But even though it is stressful do your best to be diplomatic but persistent. Good luck! 🤞

If you booked pre covid then I would try and use that as leverage, as it couldn't have been forseen. It seems a little harsh they won't look to move it, you are still wanting the venue so they won't loose out financially as there is plenty of time before your date. Hopefully you can speak to the owner and explain situation and they will be reasonable x

"you are still wanting the venue so they won't loose out financially as there is plenty of time before your date."

This is the issue - they will loose out financially as there is little chance that they could book another wedding on the date with only 3 months to go - and a winter date at that.

Wondering how strict or the level of Germany's lockdown would be - perhaps they will consider travelling for a wedding to be ok.

This is why we don't know what to do Monday now. Pay the money and hope and pray everything will be ok but potentially lose it all. 😬😬😬

Technically yes, but you will be booking a date that may not have sold so swings and roundabouts and that is business. I think you need to speak to your family and see how they feel about travelling, but I guess you can't predict the future and any restrictions that may come in before the wedding. Is such a difficult decision, wish you all the luck and hoping the venue can be reasonable and help you out. X

Update, the venue have said we can speak to the owner. However, he is out of the office so may have a few more days of the horrible feeling.

We are now considering just risking it completely and sticking with original date 🤦 This is so hard to decide what is best!

That is good, I know it drags it on but it will be good to at least see what you can do as you will overthink it if you don't at least try and god forbid they then cant make it. I think if you pushed it to end of April you should be fine, just bear in mind if you go to prime wedding season like the summer the cost may go up. Just have an open and honest conversation and explain your situation nd feelings and see what they say, is worth a try
