Venue is expensive

Laura, 25 February, 2023 at 23:34 Posted on Planning 0 2
How do you move on from your dream venue, when you see how expensive it is?

The venue said we can't have any outside caterers either, and I don't like anything on their menu. Feel like this is probably a sign it wasn't meant to be.
Any advice?

We had this when we first got engaged. We’d been talking for years about getting married at Kew Gardens, but then when we saw how expensive it was, we realised we’d have to compromise on everything else to make that venue happen. We could have just about afforded their smallest package, which would have meant getting started no earlier than 4pm, access to one building (not the one we’d envisaged), only using their recommended suppliers, and having a limit on guest numbers. While I’m sure it would still have been beautiful, it morphed so much from the dream we’d pictured, that actually it didn’t make sense to choose there at all.

We just cut it out of our heads entirely. It’s still somewhere we love to visit, but it isn’t our wedding venue, and that’s ok. We didn’t try to find anywhere similar as we knew it wouldn’t be the same, so we decided what it was that really mattered to us. The important things were that we could have great food, that there was capacity for everyone we wanted, and that the venue had a bit of character. Crucially, it needed to fit our budget.

When we found our venue, we knew it was the one! It isn’t anything like Kew (it doesn’t even have a garden!) but it is perfect, and we feel like we found a little secret gem that is just ours. And not once have we regretted not going for Kew Gardens - in fact we regularly say how relieved we are that we didn’t spend all that money!

Thank you! We have gotten over it now. Your advice was great! We took a step back and thought about what we really wanted for our wedding, which is our loved ones to be there and happy, and some lovely food that we would actually eat. We didnt want the upset that would come with booking our 'dream' venue. Excited to book our venue now 😁
