Venue payment instalments

Hello!

Does anyone have information on usual payment instalments for wedding venues?

We have just put down a deposit for a wedding venue for July 2022, and the first instalment is for the end of February 2021 which feels very soon with the wedding over a year later. As we haven't booked anything on this scale before, we are very unfamiliar with usual payment lead-times, and don't want to have paid too much too soon especially with so much uncertainty atm and no insurance options for covid reasons.

    We are getting married in April and paid a deposit of 25% of min attendees to hold the day immediately we signed the contract.


    I think it’s standard- from the venues perspective they will require a deposit to hold the day as now they can’t sell it to another couple/event etc.

    I'm booking my wedding here in Canada currently, and for our venue we had to put down 50% deposit when we booked it, and then the other 50% is due like 2 weeks before the wedding. Not sure if that's the same in the UK, or potentially it's because we only booked 9 months in advance. We're getting married August 2021, so fingers crossed it goes ahead!

    Ours is 25% on booking
    65% 3months before wedding
    Balance (10% plus any extras on the day eg extra booze) on day of wedding.
