Venue Stress

jen52637, 24 November, 2008 at 16:45 Posted on Planning 0 9

I'm having a major stress about our venue. My h2b is so laid back and thinks I'm overreacting (which I probably am) but I'm worried we won't find a venue.

We want to get married at Loch Lomond so went to view Lodge on Loch Lomond last weekend which we liked but it didn't have the 'wow' factor, you know? It was a nice venue and seemed a reasonable price for what we would get but it just didn't really blow us away. So next weekend we are going to view Cameron House but the woman who phoned this morning said we could have 20 guests or under or 100 and over but we only want 60/70. I don't think we could cut it to any less than 50 and we don't want to invite loads more just for the sake of it. So those two venues are pretty much ruled out.

This weekend we are going to see a lodge resort called Waterfront Lodges which looks nice but seems very expensive (£108 pp for the package which doesn't include accommodation for the night, venue hire, or ceremony charge). We are also going to see Ross Priory which I am now basically pinning all my hopes on. I'm worried that if I don't like Ross Priory that we won't find a venue.

I don't really know why I'm posting this other than to vent a little and see if anyone has any advice or suggestions for me.

Jen xx

    Hi Jen,

Don't panic! I don't know much about Loch Lomand, but we had a similar dilema to you. We didn't have much of a geographical area in mind - somewhere near us or one of our parents or the Lake District, but we saw loads of venues and just couldn't find one we were happy with. Eventually though (when I was about to give up and decide not to get married as it was getting that stressed!), we stumbled across what for us is the perfect venue!

I'm sure you'll find somewhere, but it can be a bit difficult, especially trying to balance, what you want with budget and numbers.

Hope that helps just a little bit. I also found that once we'd booked I felt a lot less stressed about the whole wedding, the other stuff is more fun!

    Sx

    Hi

Perhaps look at unsual venues.com as there maybe some venues there that aren't picked up on wedding venue sites and you may find more in Loch Lomond. I wouldn't lower your numbers up or down for the venue, you would probably come to regret doing that as you would end up having people there you just don't want, having under 20 is nothing either!

I would say that £108 is a lot per head if its not invluding the venue hire, we are paying £105 and that includes venue hire and wedding breakfast.

When you see the venue, you will know - you just won't have any doubts and no restirctions! xx

Ooooh it is gorgeous! (hehe like I said - I am biased though). The room you get married in only seats 63 (I think) for the ceremony so it doesn't leave you a lot of flexibility with your numbers. The views over Loch Lomond are to die for though - you get married in front of huge windows that look right out. Also if it's a nice day you can get married on the banks of the Loch.

The room for the meal seats 60ish but there is also an adjoining room that holds an extra 30.

The staff are lovely - I have emailed/called with ridiculous questions and they are always really helpful. the manager of the venue - John I THINK his name is - is also lovely. There is also 11 bedrooms in the venue so guests can stay over night (I'm getting ready there the night before).

It isn't huge but we were only wanting about 50-60 folk for the day and everywhere else wanted over 100 folk for the day (I don't even think I know 100 folk hehe). It is definitley worth having a look. One thing is it's really popular so you'll need to double check dates available.

Hope this helps a bit but I think with these things you need to go see them and see if you get that giddy feeling from the place (the second we drove up to the entrance I was sold)

    Good luck!

    L.xxx

Hi, looking for a venue for my daughter's wedding- she has her heart set on being in Loch Lomond- for the view. We went to visit Lodge on Loch Lomond and the Cruin today. Neither is hitting all the spots at the moment. Lodge rooms (the Macmillan package) at £145 per room is ridiculously high. The Cruin while very warm and friendly does not have accommodation and everything happens in the one room.

Ross Priory is now a potential hope- we can cut to about 63 guests if necessary- so would be interested to know how you got on with your visit? Also we are looking for 2010- did they give you any idea about availability?

    Thanks

    Hi!

Ross Priory is very nice, although we didn't think it was quite 'luxurious' enough for what we had in mind if that makes any sense! But I've heard people who absolutely love it! The building is stunning and the dining room is lovely but the other rooms let it down we felt. It is fully booked for Summer 2010 unfortunately although if they are willing to push it back I'm sure they'd get a date in 2011 no problem!

We went to Cameron House today and it is stunning (and not quite as pricey as we feared, although it is about 2 grand more than Lodge on Loch Lomond)! It is £99 a night for Cameron House so slightly less expensive.

Good luck, I really hope they find the perfect venue! ?

Try not to stress about it all. You will find the right venue for you.

I dont know the area although I have stayed at Cameron House (it is a beautiful hotel and surroundings) but keep looking, maybe broaden your area and think out the box a little. Your venue doesnt have to be a hotel. We got married in a botanical gardens for example.

Have you looked on your local councils site for suggestions?

There may even be some really lovely restaurants?
