Venues and Caterers in London

cathryn86, 5 November, 2012 at 15:29 Posted on Planning 0 8

I'm looking for a venue for my civil partnership reception next year - we definitely want to get married in London but all the venues here are so expensive! (I'm from a tiny village originally and London prices just seem crazy to me!) We only have a small budget and our honeymoon has to come out of that too. I'm open to the idea of renting something like a village hall as long as it's quite a pretty one. The trouble is we're probably having around 120 guests and a lot of what we're finding is just too small! Anyone have any thoughts on nice but VERY cheap venues? (Tall order, I know!)

Also does anyone know of any good caterers that do Greek food?

I got married in April in central london this year and loved it - found the venues about the same as surrey, which are super expensive if you want to get married on a Saturday. You can get some good deals if you marry out of season and not on a Saturday

Would you consider a pub for reception? Good way to keep costs down.

    Ello, ello!

Good choice on having a London wedding but as you say venues (and everything else) is ruddy expensive.

Have you thought about a registry office ceremony? Some of the ones in central are quite kool and some great photo opportunities after doing this would open the options up for non licensed reception venues.

I have no idea what your budget is so here are a few random 'budget' venues

I have no idea how much these venues are but I guess town halls will be cheaper then most commercial venues a few examples below

    https://www.fusion-lifestyle.com/centres/Chiswick_Town_Hall/Facilities/

A few pubs/bars with event space function rooms.

Great food and beer garden https://www.therosendale.co.uk/home.php

    vintagie feel https://balhambowlsclub.com/

Various bars around London some quite quirky http://www.grandunionbars.com/ourbars/

Great views of the river https://www.trafalgartavern.co.uk/private-hire

My friend had a birthday party here was mucho fun https://theoldqueenshead.com/

Attended another birthday at this one again quirky with nice little outside space. https://93feeteast.co.ukprivate.html

A few community/village hall type venues, sadly most community type centres or London's equivalent to the village hall are all ugly concrete 60s, 70's builds (I cant really think of any that are even 'quite pretty' IMO :

Get in touch with Bovingdons caterers. They have a venue too but supply lots of places and can no doubt advise you.

I'm not sure if you're 100% on central London ... if not, would definitely be worth looking on the outskirts of central. I, until very recently, lived in East London which has a few pubs overlooking the beautiful Victoria Park. My two favourites are:

    http://www.royalinnonthepark.com/

http://www.geronimo-inns.co.uk/thecrown/privatehire# (the food here is amazing if having them do the catering is an option)

To add to Funky's list of town halls, Islington Town Hall is a great venue - my friend got married there recently and it was perfect!

    https://www.islington.gov.uk/about/contact-complaints/visitingoffices/Pages/townhall.aspx

I also agree with Funky regarding the village halls - they're more suited for jumble sales rather than weddings, at least the ones I'm familiar with are!

EDIT: Sugar, I've just read that you're looking at 120 guests ... in which case the above might not cut it!
