Vicar/Minister/Registrar - thank you gift???

BadgerBeetle, 24 September, 2012 at 01:16 Posted on Planning 0 3

Is anyone getting their vicar/minister/registrar anything?? I hadn't even thought about it, but I've seen thank you cards tonight which have made me think that it would be appropriate - even more so given that our minister is quite close to OHs family. But what on earth do you buy a minister?! I've seen candles, but they all seem to be Christening related Smiley sad any suggestions?! Xx

I think a card would be lovely, but I don't think a gift is necessary - perhaps you could make a donation to the church instead? Or if you do want to get a present what about a nice plant?

We are also quite close to our minister so he wouldn't accept payment for doing the blessing. At the time we were booking, he'd just come back from a trip to Zambia to do some missionary work, so we gave him a cheque for £250 towards that (we'd worked out how much it would have cost if we'd paid for the wedding).

I know H's brother gave the minister a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates.

A registrar probably would not be allowed to accept a gift (like most other local authority workers)

Thanks for all the suggestions! I know he drinks beer, so have been thinking of a little selection box of real ales. Or maybe a bottle of tipple to match what we're giving my grandad/the best man.
