My partner and I have set a date and are in the process of arranging for a photographer.
I am keen to look into a videographer aswell because I think it would be lovely to look back at the ceremony and speeches and hopefully one day look back with our children. I am also really worried that the day will go so quickly that I’ll miss little details or forget the speeches. I’m lucky enough that my partner managed to film our proposal and I watch it back all the time. The difficulty is it’s so expensive as an addition to the photography.

What are people’s thoughts? Do you think it’s worth the extra expense?

We looked at it as feel the same as you, but in honesty we just couldn't justify the cost. A friend runs his own company but even with his mates rates was still going to be about £1500 for a decent length one, as I don't see the point in a 2 min one, so would want at least a 15 min one to really capture the day.
It may be worth approaching local colleges to see if there are students wanting to build their portfolio who would do it for a small fee, we have done this and they have said to come back in the new year as it is something they do but mainly in the spring. Or post on a local Facebook site to see if anyone is trying to start out and offering reduced fee packages.
Failing that, get a friend with a camcorder to do it and then buy some editing software to create it yourself, more time consuming, but a lot cheaper!

Like Charlotte we’ve decided that it’s just too expensive - we also think we’d rather have really good photos as they will go up at home and we’ll see them all the time. That said, I do want to be able to look back on bits so we’re thinking we’ll just ask (certain) people to video the speeches etc on their phones. Won’t be amazing quality but will give us an opportunity to hear them again!

Yes Jane, exacrly our line of thinking, we have an amazing photographer and is a good value package so worth spending a bit more on that I think than a video you think you will watch but in reality most people we know who had it don't watch it that often x
