Videographer or not to videographer

Rosie, 28 January, 2025 at 17:46 Posted on Planning 0 5

We are getting married in an amazing venue next year, but can't decide whether photos will be enough to truly capture the day. Would be great to hear the pros and cons of getting a videographer? Do you ever actually watch the footage back?

Most people I know watch their wedding video when it first arrives and then never again. We had ours filmed primarily for those who couldn't come (Covid restrictions meant 2/3 of our guests weren't able to attend) but we've never watched it since and I wouldn't be remotely fussed if it were lost. Whereas I'd be highly peeved if our wedding album went missing.

I had the same thought process with my wedding next year, I've got my heart set on wanting some kind of video to look back on however I know I will rarely looks back at a full on movie type that the videographers produce (also the price just doesn't suit our budget). So we have chose to go for a content creator for our day as well as our photographer who will compile various different clips from key points throughout the day and then make it into a highlight, shorter video to look back on.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Here are some pros and cons of hiring a videographer: HP Instant Ink

    Pros:

    • Memories in Motion: Videos capture the emotions, movements, and sounds that photos can't, giving a fuller sense of the day.

    • Shareable Moments: Easier to share with family and friends who couldn't attend.

    • Reliving the Day: Watching the footage can bring back the emotions and atmosphere, letting you relive the moments.

    Cons:

    • Cost: Hiring a videographer can be expensive.

    • Intrusiveness: Cameras and crew might feel intrusive during intimate moments.

    • Editing Time: It may take a while to receive the final edited video.

Many couples find that watching their wedding video is a cherished experience, allowing them to see details they might have missed during the busy day.

I can't tell you whether you should or shouldn't, but I will tell you my own experience.

As I'm a photographer myself, getting a photographer was my biggest priority, however, looking back now, I wish I'd have got a videographer as, since we got married in 2017, I have lost my nan, and my wife has lost two of her grandparents and we'd give anything to hear their voices again.
