Vulnerable Brides?

HappyPinkHair15172, 21 April, 2020 at 11:36 Posted on Planning 0 1

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all staying safe and positive at this incredibly difficult time.

I’m posting this just to kind of reach out to and support other vulnerable brides out there.

So I have asthma, diabetes and a still healing major surgery wound. Yesterday I received my “vulnerable persons” letter fro our local authority outlining their ongoing advice for me, i.e. not going out at all unless for medical treatment. We have been shielding since my operations in November as I am have been extremely poorly and was in a life threatening condition at one stage. I also had emergency surgery in March to remove an unrelated skin cancer, so me and the H2B have had a really tough 5 months or so.

We took the decision last week to postpone our 19th September wedding, in light of the above, and are currently trying to reschedule for around the same time next year. We were in a right pickle as our ceremony is in a different venue to our reception, and up until yesterday, they were not returning emails (not being a Bridezilla, they only had 4 weddings booked for the whole of this year). We were worried we’d end up with no ceremony venue as they have said that they will not be conducting weddings after the end of this year.

There has been a little light at the end of the tunnel now, as they have final replied and offered to move our date, until next year, yay!

Now all we have to do is rebook with our Registrars, but they are not open until July, and move the date with our small business reception venue (fingers crossed they reopen after all this is over!). Most of our suppliers are small businesses or sole traders so fingers crossed there, too.

Just wanted to see how other vulnerable brides and grooms were coping they the uncertainty of this situation, and really, to say, just chip away at the rescheduling tasks, it will start to come together again!

Posting this on our one year engagement anniversary, we should have been marrying in 151 days, looking at it as an extended planning session instead! Even more inspiration and anticipation!

Love from Liverpool

Ali xx

    Hi Ali!

I'm shielding too. AND due to get married on 19th September! I know deep down it's unlikely to go ahead but also haven't been quite ready to give the date up! My venue and registry office have 'pencilled in' 4th September 2021 for me, and also keeping 19th September open until we make a firm decision in June.

How's are luck hey! Choose a year with a global pandemic!

    Take care and stay sane.

    Hi Siobhan

    We must be Bride-twins!

I was going to wait until we were due to send our invitations out at the beginning of June to make a decision on whether or not to postpone, but given that not much has changed since the lockdown began, and that I’m still going to be in a high risk category, it didn’t make sense to us to prolong the inevitable.

We have finally managed to settle on 25th September next year; it’s the only date both venues can do, but of course, the Registrars are not dealing with weddings until further notice, so I am just keeping my fingers crossed that they are available!

I’m thinking that as we can only get married at 11am, that slot will be less popular and should have availability! I’m relying on the power of positive thinking!

We’re going to hold a mini commitment ceremony on our original date with our loved ones joining us on Skype, just to keep us focused on what really matters.

Hope you are keeping safe and busy!

    Ali xx
