Waaaahh, toothache, help!

SophieM, 11 May, 2009 at 21:33 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

I've never had toothache in my life but now I do ? It hurts - it's shooting pains going up through my entire head, focussed on one spot but moving around quite a bit. Started this afternoon. Eating and drinking doesn't hurt at all - please tell me this doesn't mean I have a hole in my tooth. ? I've only got two fillings, which were done about 25 years ago and weren't really necessary - I've always had excllent teeth and I last went ot the dentist in December - have been going religiously every 6 months for the last four years. I won't need a filling, will I? Am genuinely terrified of having my teeth drilled. Help meeee!

You have my sympathies, I've recently had problems with my teeth and I think toothache is one of the worst pains I think you can have. Take some strong painkillers, preferably with ibuprofen in if it looks swollen at all. And get yourself to the dentists!

Could it be a wisdom tooth coming through and not a hole? I may have to leave this thread alone though after this post because if I think about the dentists too much I feel panicky!

Oh no, poor you ? Could it be wisdom teeth related? [positive thinking] if you had a hole in a tooth surely eating / drinking would cause pain in that specific tooth? [/postive thinking] I'm no expert, I haven't got any fillings etc. but I do have evil wisdom teeth which cause pains similar to what you've described...

I should be minus one of the evil bastards today, I was supposed to have my lower right out this morning but the anaethnatist decided to call in sick and the hospital couldn't find a replacement so I stressed myself out over a GA for nothing and have to go through it all again next week ?

Shall we start a teeth kleek? We could knock back Nurofen rather than wine?

Have you had a cold? It could be your sinuses rather than your teeth. I've had that before, the dentist even believed me and removed the filling to check what was going on. Some ibuprophen and menthol inhalation sorted it right out.

I would think it unlikely that you've got a hole in your tooth, unless the dentist missed it at your last check up.

? mine tooth is hurty too.. i've got dentist next week anyway so i hope it doesnt get too hurty before then. Try wine through a straw.. saves teeth getting cold making it more hurty.. plus saves on drugs! ?

Fingers crossed its just wisdom tooth pain. A little tip I got from a nurse about pain relief whilst your waiting to see a dentist. She recomended to take one painkiller every 2 hours, rather than the usual 2 painkillers every 4 hours. That way it means you keep the pain relief topped up instead of waiting for the 4 hours to tick over whilst in pain in the last half an hour or so. Hope the pain stops soon.

Def not wisdom teeth, I had them all out years ago. Am self-medicating with wine and it's not hurting currently. I am hoping it's stress/neuralgia, but it feels more real than that <sob> If it isn't better tomorrow I will have to see the dentist. Woe is meeeeeee.

    ETA - thanks <wibble>
