Mrs.V.White2b, 9 June, 2008 at 10:40 Posted on Planning 0 44

Good mornin all, just wonderin what music you are walking down the aisle to? I have no idea as I dont want the traditional wedding chorus as its dated. I'm just after suggestions, so if anyone can help it will very much appreciated.

We're still going for something fairly traditional as we're having Canon in D. I absolutely point blank refused to have the wedding march......its sooo totally not us at all.

Is yours a civil or church ceremony?

Snap! Ours is a civil ceremony, and we're not wedding march people either and wanted something we both liked.

I'm walking down the aisle to Tiny Dancer by Elton John! We both love the song, it has some happy memories for us and the tinkly piano bit at the start will be perfect.

That said, my cousin got married in a church a few weeks ago (we're Register Office) and they walked in to an amazing gospel choir that even impressed us non church goers. My mum proceeded to pump the bride for info in the receiving line, even though we live hundreds of miles away!!

I am reading everyones choices wih great interest as every song i pick h2b says no to it. He wants the traditional wedding march and I'd love it if I was getting hitched in a church but since it's a civil ceremony I don't feel right having it.

So my question is is everyone having the songs with the words being played or just the instrumental part (is that what you call it if the words aren't there, lol)? Neither of us is that interested in music so it's going to be a nightmare choosing.

    Canon in D.

Some lovely other ideas on here, but I want quite traditional (it is a church after all). A friend of mine had 'Everybody's Free' from the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack which was lovely.

I had the wedding march and the feeling was fantastic. When those first notes echoed through the church my heart started racing. It's the only time i was going to walk to that music so that's what decided it for me.

Im going to be walking down the aisle to a song that OH's dad wrote. His dad was in a scottish dance band before he passed away and wrote alot of music so I will be picking something that he done and using that. Just have to decide which song to choose.

I'm having Josh Groban 'You Raise Me Up' but only if I can fit enough of it in to bother having, cos the instrumental version I've heard is rubbish.

We're having 'your song' from the moulin rouge soundtrack and having the song with words as it is the words that make it! I somehow does sound right to me without the words. Walking out to 'come what may, and again, for us its the lyrics we chose it for!

I've done quite a lot of thinking about this - we're having a civil ceremony and I want to make an entrance but also something that suits us so here's what I've come up with. As it's a civil ceremony it'll only take 30 secs max to walk the "aisle" so I'm thinking about only using the beginning and fading out after about 30-45 secs so we don't end up standing about looking nervous while the song plays!!

Also some of them are good for using while signing the register or when people are mingling about before the ceremony starts.

    She's a Rainbow - Rolling Stones https://www.last.fm/music/The+Rolling+Stones/_/She's+a+Rainbow

All you need is love - The Beatles (I'm liking the fanfare at the beginning!)

Saint-Saens Organ Symphony http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0d0itDEs9uo&feature=related It sounds better on CD but you'll get the idea!

You just may be the one - The Monkees (another crap recording but again you get the idea - it's available on the "best of" CD) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h6CmJ7MtSo and the lyrics are lovely

Flowers in the window – Travis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0cyxVMSxCs

For once in my life – Stevie Wonder https://www.last.fm/music/Stevie+Wonder/_/For+Once+in+My+Life

Kiss Me - Sixpence None the Richer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9HT9OOSd3U

Beautiful - Carole King https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZhQBevdYKU (makes me cry!)

(Your love keeps lifting me) higher & higher – Jackie Wilson https://www.last.fm/music/Jackie+Wilson/_/%28Your+Love+Keeps+Lifting+Me%29+Higher+and+Higher

Touch Me – The Doors (not good for walking in to but sure could fit in somewhere…) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PECk9A-07Pw

Sail Away – David Gray https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLkEkCpZ0y4 (another crap YouTube recording – buy the CD or get it off iTunes). Nice for a first dance.

I’ve got loads more ideas so let me know if you want more!

    We are having this

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbTozgoj9OQ

Its our fav song and my OH's fav Artist's song, but as this cover is played on Cello's the rentals wont notice. We are then having the S & M version for signing the register.

There are so many options for picking the right music for the wedding entrance but I think you should always try to pick a song that is special to you and your fiance.

One tip is to think about what musician(s) you are using on the day. Certain songs might not sound quite right on some instruments, but if in doubt you can always ask their advice.

You can find some examples of what some couples have requested to be played on the piano at https://www.martyncroston.com/repertoire.php
