We are engaged but they are not and it’s affecting our planning!

Amanda, 30 November, 2022 at 15:21 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 1
My partner and I got engaged a few months ago after being together for several years. A close friend of mine and her partner met earlier this year and have decided they want to get married the same week/destination as us! What are the chances? Of all the locations abroad they wanted the exact same place for the exact same week. What do I do? They are not engaged yet but are asking me regularly what we are doing and to nail things down (for 2 years from now) so they can make decisions and seem to be getting annoyed with me.

The worst part is that the location I chose for sentimental reasons but it is one that the other couple have not really been to.
How do I manage this?!

Book the venue and date that you want. If you think they will be upset by this, then explain to them the reasons you want/need to choose that venue and date, but to be honest, they'd have a nerve getting ratty about it. If having that venue and date is so important to them, then they should just go ahead and book it. Either they are 'engaged' (and one can argue that anyone who is already planning their wedding is 'engaged' even if they haven't yet announced it formally), in which case there is nothing to prevent them booking the venue themselves, or they are not, in which case they don't have the right to 'reserve' dates that might be wanted for people who are engaged.
