We gave notice this morning

ruthy_wuthy, 30 September, 2008 at 21:33 Posted on Planning 0 17

And I was sooooo nervous!

Everything was ok though. I had to go in first with all our documents and the registrar asked me a few questions about me, then about OH...then I signed something to say we're not related and paid my money and that was it! I was in there for about 20 minutes and OH for about 5 mins...typical!

Glad it all went ok. You made me chuckle yesterday when you said that you normally crack jokes at the wrong time (something I do too)

We paid £30 each to give notice. I had a couple of issues with my birth certificate... we don't really get such things in Spain...the mother just gets a family book which states the birth details of the children etc....we don't really get extracts from it and I had a job and a half trying to get the registrar to understand!!!

I think he just stopped asking questions to shut me up in the end!

I was really tempted to make a funny remark ( funny to me...I doubt it would have been to anyone else...) when the registrar asked if we were related...

Thankfully I didn't.....but I was able to make a joke about a very noisy printer which made the registrar crack a smile and gave me some relief!!

Definitely more real now! OH even looked half excited today!

I feel much better - although work are being a bit anal about me flying. They're insisting on me getting a doctors note to prove I can fly so that I don't invalidate my travel insurance in case i get ill....grrrrrrr I was supposed to be going to Vienna next week!

How are you? Meds all fully working now? I thought I'd made you mad with my rant the other day ?

Do you mind my asking what sort of questions they ask? This is one of those things that I'm really nervous about as I have a terrible memory and I'm worried that they'll ask something about my fiance that I'll have forgotten the answer to and then they won't let us get married!

I'm sure as usual, I'm worrying over nothing!

I live in Bradford but im getting married in a different area (Settle near Skipton) & know I have to pay the registrar from Settle, but someone above mentioned £30pp fee, do I have to pay that as well & why?

Sorry to sound so thick im just really thick & dont have a clue

You're not being dumb - I asked the same questions several times before I got my head around it.

We're also getting married somewhere different to where we live and this is what we have had/still have to do:

    1. We rang registrar local to venue to book registrar for wedding day and time
    2. We then made an appointment at registry office local to where we live to give notice
    3. We gave notice at the registry office local to where we live,. They just asked us to confirm where we live, dates of birth, age, whether we've been married before, and whether OH and I are related, either by blood or marriage etc...
    4. We had to pay £30 each to give notice - this is separate from registrar fees and seperate to marriage certificate fees
    5. Now that we have given notice at the registry office local to where we live, they will contact the registry office local to our venue to let them know we have given notice
    6. The registry office local to where we live will now post details of our marriage to the public for the next 2 weeks to allow anyone to dispute the marriage if they wish to do so
    7. In 2 weeks, we will then go back to the local registry office where we live and pick up our marriage certificates
    8. The marriage certificate will then need posting or taken in person, to the registry office local to where we're getting married
    9. Then everything will be official
    10. On the wedding day, or a few days before, we will need to pay the registrar local to our venue, the fees which correspond to carrying out the wedding ceremony in a licenced venue other than a registry office.

    HTH!

    Hi,

Glad your feeling better and at least your work is looking after your health. Hopefully you can get to Vienna next week.

Sorry I might just not have replied to your last email but you certainly didn't make me mad ?. I lose track of my personal emails since I'm concentrating on business ones.

I'm ok thanks, will drop you an email.

Thanks for that, seems the most silliest thing I have ever heard of...so does the cost!! But oh well needs must!

Can I assume there is no point putting deposit down on venue until we pick up marriage certifcates?

    Thanks

We put our deposit down for our venue about 7 months ago and we've only just given notice of our marriage, and we still have 11 months to go until the wedding! The registry office local to our venue wouldn't let us give notice any earlier than 12 months before the wedding but our venue has a 2 year waiting list so I needed to get in there quickly!

Maybe you could just ask your venue if they have ever experienced any cancellations because a registrar could not be present - I asked my venue...but I would imagine it's pretty rare for that to happen.

Does anyone know of you have to have a full birth certificate? The only one I have at the moment is an extract (almost like a mini birth certificate) I'm just wondering now if I'll have to pay for a copy

OH took a mini one (we think!) - it's the size of half an A4 pice of paper or thereabouts - but square...if that makes any sense!

I've just asked OH to check and he says the birth certificate we took only had his name, date of birth and registration on and that it doesn't have his parents details on.

    HTH!
