Wed 2 Be dresses

kizzi10000, 4 July, 2016 at 16:59 Posted on Planning 0 22

I feel I'm going to have to call time on my dress ?. I've been shortening it myself to cut costs (majorly stretched the budget for it), and had hoped to lose 3st a year ago so it would fit properly. Weight loss hasn't happened, I can't sit down in it without ripping the back seam, and when I tighten the lacing to pull it in round the boobs and waist, all my back fat hangs over the top. I know I can't lace it myself as well as the lady in the shop did it for me, but I just feel I look worse in it now than I did a year ago, and I'm beginning to hate it.

I have given in (stretching the budget again for alterations) and will be taking it to see a seamstress on Thursday to see if she can do anything to make it fit better, but I'm not sure I like the style any more. I keep looking at the picture my daughter took in the shop, and it doesn't come anywhere near what I see in the mirror.

So, and contemplating a trip to Wed 2 Be. I'm leaning more towards a tea length 1950's style (some way from the tight fitting Maggie Ascher I didn't want to take off in the shop lol). Has anyone been there? And if so, what are the really low end of the price scale dresses like? They reckon they go from £65-500 on the website, but nothing on there at the cheaper end.

Feeling seriously fed up now, but at least we've (read 'I've') finally ordered some invites. So much for making them myself! Mum asked me if anyone was getting an official invitation as my aunt wanted to know, and it's just under 6 weeks to go lol

Very few of their dresses come in that lower price range, most seem to fall in the £400 - 500 range. I managed to get a dress for £99 from a sample sale in a bridal store called Francesca bridal which is in Sheffield, there is another but I don't know where it is. There is a bridal factory outlet store that isn't wed 2 be as well, one in Northallerton and they have two more branches https://m.facebook.com/bridalfactoryoutlets/. Also try a search on Facebook and you'll get some interesting options.

I went to Wed2B in Coventry in the hope of finding a tea length dress and found approximately nothing. As it turns out I've ended up with a full-priced full-length dress, but I tried on a similar one in Wed2B that was £449. I saw nothing at the lower end of the scale.

What about Vivien of Holloway for a 50s style dress? They're about £150.

Thanks ladies ?, won't bother making the trip into town then. Not a hope of making it to London in the next 6 weeks ☹️. Will have to keep scouring the internet

Southampton side of the New Forest. There's a Wed 2 Be in Southampton, but it's 13 miles away and I don't have a car. The bridal shop nearby was where I bought the original dress, and isn't one of the cheapest around, shall we say ?.

Will see what the seamstress suggests on Thursday, and there's another lady (bridal alterations specialist) I have also messaged, so hopefully one of them can help me fall in love with the dress again without me having to spend a small fortune I don't have on getting it fixed ☹️

    Hiya,

Lindy Bop do shorter dresses too, they're an online shop. Their sizing is nice and straight forward. Depends how detailed of a dress you're looking for.

    Good luck xx

I bought my tea length dress from Wed2B in Bolton for £450ish (I think that was including the breathable bag) - there was definitely limited choice for the shorter dresses; I found 2 in rough sizes close to mine. Ended up getting a La Prima Bridal one in a 16 and have had it made smaller to my size.

Of all the dresses I chose, I think the price range was more like £300-500.

I'm sorry you don't love your dress Smiley sad

Ask the seamstress about modifying the back - a V shaped back is far more flattering on back fat than a straight across back! I've seen it done with corset backs before, so hopefully that'll help.

Otherwise, as you only have 6 weeks to go I would suggest looking at either preloved Wedding Dresses or something from Monsoon, ASOS, Debenhams etc. A PP mentioned Lindy Bop which is also a great shout - they're such pretty and comfortable dresses, not to mention flattering!

Good luck lovely and I'm sure you'll look beautiful on your Big Day no matter what Smiley smile

Gutted I have to leave for work now and can't have a proper look until later lol

Thank you all again, but thinking Wed 2 Be will be way out of the price range, having already bought a dress for £650 that wasn't in the budget lol.

So, from Maggie's Ascher (I really don't feel it looks anywhere near the same any more, though I'm not any bigger)

I've just ordered this from Lindy Bop:

Will see if I feel any different about it once the seamstress gets me in it properly (you can't position yourself right when you're lacing the back up yourself), but I've got a petticoat already (bought for wedding themed fancy dress) to go under it, and certainly won't get as hot and sweaty!

Had to top at just that one for now lol as some bloody gorgeous dresses on there, and fantastic prices!

Your first dress is really absolutely gorgeous, and you look sensational in it! In my opinion the Lindy Bop dress doesn't even come close. These seamstresses are amazing fairies and really can work wonders! I would really try everything to make your original dress work, it is gorgeous! You definitely can't lace those dresses up on your own so that is probably half the problem that you think you have! Good luck for Thursday, I hope you fall back in love with your dress as you should!!x

Aww, thank you ?. It's probably also a bit of spending so long unpicking the lace and sewing it back on to shorten it that I'm a bit sick of the sight of it now lol. But I look at that picture and it's not what I see in the mirror at home ☹️. And it's so not me, which is probably why I bought it in the first place lol, whereas the Lindy Bop one is more my thing. There's enough room in the seams to let it out at least a size, so fingers crossed, it's just money I've not budgeted for...

I agree that as long as you can get in it it's lovely and impossible to try to get into lacing on your own. See the seamstress and take it from there. Never looks the same at home in the mirror. You're probably too close and can't see it all to have the mirror on the floor propped at the wrong angle. I did put a bit of weight on over Xmas for a 6 Jan wedding and wasn't happy but love it on my photos. You could even take the other dress for later evening if you wanted to.

To be honest I love the dress you have! You look stunning. What if you got a little bolero jacket?

You could always wears the Maggie for the day and Lindy Bop for the night Smiley smile Who doesn't love a wardrobe change!

My mum would approve of a bolero lol, she doesn't think wedding dresses should be strapless...

I look ok from the front as the curves are in the right places, it's just when I turn sideways my belly and bum stick out ☹️.

I suppose I just don't do posh frocks and am bothered about looking way too glam for a registry office and pub. I tend to live in lycra or jogging bottoms and trainers!

Wear what makes you feel the best. There's no point feeling uncomfortable, it's your (and your OH's) day there's no point wearing something you don't feel 100% in.

This. Me exactly. Plus I had to wear flat boots. On photos doesn't look anywhere as bad as my head said it did. I also had a similar style dress and I found (laughs!) Don't stand with legs straight. Bend one knee slightly and put it slightly twisted in front of other knee.

I know you're all laughing but really does make thigh area n that style look smaller lol ?

That's how I'm stood in all my photos lol. Also if you feel conscious of tum area ask photographer not to take photos side on. And hubby behind you ish with arms round your middle covers a multitude of sins. Plus on the day you won't think about it after the first couple of pics. Not to mention thank heavens for flowers.

You look lovely in it. Rock that dress. Xx

Thanks Jayne ?. I'm probably over complicating things, and I'm sure the tog would look for the best angle anyway, even without me pointing out my insecurities lol. I hate having photos taken and can only see tall willow brides in dresses like this

I'm 5'4", size 16 and hippy. Not willowy. And very self conscious about pics but if I say so myself they turned out great. Don't worry. Xx

Hey, I think you look stunning in your original dress. maybe try asking the seamstress to add some lace shoulder straps as it will help to mask your back if our self conscious and it will keep your mum happy! although its about what makes you feel good.

I have just brought my dress from Wed2Be and love it so much. I also didnt see anything at the lower end of the price scale, mine was right at the top but was my budget so i was happy.

congrats and hope your wedding is amazing
