wedding at 2pm - what a bummer!

shoegal01, 18 February, 2009 at 14:20 Posted on Planning 0 28

Our registrar can only do the wedding at either 2 or 4pm - we wanted 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway have gone for 2pm as think 4pm is too late and leaves far to much time sitting around waiting and ill be far too excited for that!!

if you went to a wedding at 2pm what time would you expect dinner and then what time would you invite evening guests - i dont want people hanging around getting bored!

Ha ha! Same happened to us! We went for 2 as well. Means there'll be more time for pics and saying hello to people. Don't sweat it!

We wanted 2pm but the registrar could only do midday, 2.30pm or 4pm, so we went for 2.30pm. Ceremony finished at 3pm, then drinks reception and photos and H and I had a ride in the car (nice to have some alone time!) Speeches were at 4pm, followed by meal, then evening reception at 7.30pm.

Thanks for your replies, i will stop sweating now!

BUT..... if the ceromony finishes at 2.30 and we dont eat until 4 say do you think in the 90 minutes wait i should provide canapes or do you think drinks should be enough while the guests mingle and we have photos??

we had photos done in that time, and just provided drinks. I think people would have lunch before going to a wedding at 2pm, so i wouldnt worry about it

I'm getting married at 2 - which is what we chose, so not sure why it's a bummer!!! ?

anyway, we are providing a few canapes and drinks whilst photos are done. not sure if you are travelling between venues, but if you're not you could always provide activities for your guests - garden games or something? not a fan personally but always an option!

Me too! I don't think 2pm is a terrible time.

We are also providing drinks while photos are being done and will need to be going into the main reception room to be seated by around 4-4.15 apparently. I don't think it will be a problem for us, everyone will be mingling and having a drink. (in the sun hopefully!!)

Sorry guys, didnt mean 2pm was a terrible time or anything, just really wanted 3pm...... i was hoping not to have to provide canapes but the ceromy and reception are at the same place so i think i will need to provide some kind of canapes if we are not sittin down until about 4.30

I think so - if people have travelled for around 1 hour and then watched the ceromony and then dont get to eat until 4.30 or even later ones everyone has sat down i think they will be starving - i know i would, but then thats just my opinion, maybe i am being over acomidating

I am getting at 2pm and I agree with Mel, you won't need canapes.

    No maybe about it! ?

People coming to a 2pm wedding know they won't be eating until, at the very earliest, 3.30pm. They will make their own arrangements for either a late lunch, a brunch, or a small lunch. If you're concerned that they won't put two and two together, put on your info sheet that the sit down meal will be at X time, that way they know exactly what to expect. Don't waste your money buying canapes that will only serve to spoil the appetite of your guests for the much more expensive sit down meal you're also paying for!

No offence taken Shoegal... we also have a lot of people travelling from far and wide and thought 1pm was too early for that but with 2pm there shouldn't be any rushing...

98% of our guests had to travel much further than an hour. My Mum's side of the family are all in Essex and H's Dad's side are all in Glasgow and we made them all come to Yorkshire! You'll be surprised how many will stay over the night before. All but one of our lot chose to book two nights at the hotel, much to our surprise.

Ours was at 2pm and it went pretty much like this (if I remember-the whole thing was a bit of a blur)

hairdresser at 8am, make up at 10.30, all the BMs got ready at about 12, tog came round, then I got dressed and before i knew it it was time to go to the church..

service 2-3pm, H and I went for pics in the park till about 3.45, canapes and (too many) welcome drinks-prosecco-served at about 3.30 (and canapes!!!-I love them and thought it was a really nice-granted expensive-touch); meal and speeches at 5ish, they finshed about 7.15 then evening do started at 7.30. we served the evening buffet at about 10 I think although I didnt even see it.

Our wedding was at 2.30pm, was a civil ceremony so finished by 3, drinks reception and photos and then we sat down for our meal at 4.30pm and the timings worked really well. We didn't bother with canapes because we thought that for a 2.30pm wedding people would realise they needed to have lunch first, and anyone who didn't deserved to be hungry as they were just silly! In reality, everyone was fine and really enjoyed their meal.

I really don't think you need canapes at all.......they fill you up too much if its that close to the meal. Save your money and just have drinks, and sit down for your meal at 4-4.30 x

We really wanted 2 but we had only the choice of 12:30 or 4pm so gone for 4pm, you want to swap, lol

It seems 2pm is a popular time so just enjoy not having to rush and you will have a great day x
