Wedding at home

Alexandra, 14 April, 2024 at 12:36 Posted on Planning 1 7
Hello,

We are getting married in October. A small reg office ceremony followed by the reception etc in a marquee in our garden. As we’re planning it all ourselves, I’m a little nervous that I’m going to have forgotten something.
Does anyone out there know anyone who essentially got married at home and have any advice / things to consider?
Thank you!
Xx

Hi, this sounds beautiful and pretty similar to our wedding. We have hired a venue for the evening bit so our family can stay over but we are doing it all ourselves. I have probably forgotten something but so far we have:
Lights (bottle lights and string lights), candles, bunting, flowers (dried and fresh bouquets), food (bbq), cutlery/plates/festival style plastic cups (no breakages!), cake table with stands etc, sweetie table, photos of us as a couple through the years, memory table, kids table (and games for adults, some people like having something to do!) we bought giant bubbles and we are making some garden/lawn games, signage to toilets etc, playlist and speakers, blankets, everything people will need for food/drink - cutlery, bottle openers, cork screws! You don’t want people rummaging about your kitchen! And lastly keepsake table, guest book, Polaroid camera etc etc depending on what you’d like for your guests to send their wishes, ours is a simple mirror with chalk pens, not that interested in guest books so love the simple idea and something we can reuse! Please let me know if I’ve forgotten anything! Between us we’ll have a whole list! 🙈

Thank you so much for this! I like the idea of chalk pens and the mirror. We’ve just bought a welcome sign from Etsy which has dried flowers in it that match our colour scheme. Defo stocking up on fairy lights etc. we have a pizza van coming but need to sort food for later in the evening if anyone has any inspiration!

You might need to look into "posh loos" which are portable loos that are in large trailers. Water supply /power. Maybe in the evening a jacket potato van, fish and chips. Pop corn machine.

Are you having a DJ or if you are supplying your own music and speakers think about also getting some disco type lighting which will really add to the nighttime party atmosphere.

Home made bunting (see nan ) if you are lucky enough to still have one - or two.
