Wedding Breakfast Starter Suggestions?

BrideMrsT2B, 19 January, 2011 at 20:08 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi,

I have a meeting with our hotel on Saturday to discuss menu's and I have no idea what to have for our starter. We get married in June so not sure soup would be suitable as i'm hoping it will be a warm ish day and i'm not that keen on melon so what are you lovely ladies (or gents) having?

We are having prawns. I know this is a bit risky because a lot of people don't like shellfish, but I honestly couldn't care because it's my wedding day and I've disliked the food at 90% of the weddings i've been to!

We have a few fussy eaters and my H2B is a vege although thats not causing us any probs. Some people dont like fish, some dont like pate...im feeling inclined to say sod it and go for something I love but I dont want to see lots of plates going back full!

    We have a choice of:

trio of melon, strawberry liquor, deep fried parma ham

smoked duck & wild mushroom terrine

    caramelised french onion soup

    peppered smoked mackerel fillets

hot deep fried breaded brie wedges

but we haven't had our menu tasting yet so haven't decided!

I'm sending out the menu choices to all guests so they can choose what they want out

of the 3 choices there is, (everyone's happy)

But i must admit i'm scared of soup because knowing me i'll spill it down my dress ☹️

Yeah at least then if there is a veggie one or chicken one most people are bound to like it. Not sure exactly what it looks like or hows its served but sounds nice lol!!

Also im a bit the same about soup, scared of spilling, plus my H2B could sit on another table and still spend it on me he is that clumsy lol xx

    Some summery ideas

    - Small portion of risotto with bolets (not sure of the English translation actually for bolets - basically, wild mushrooms)

    - Good old fashioned rocket & parmesan salad with olive oil and balsamic vinegar & rosemary bread sticks

    - Vegetable tart - maybe with some sundried toms/rosemary/mozzarella?

    - Traditional smoked salmon with lemon, capers, & wedges of brown bread & butter

    - Salade Paysanne - crispy lettuce with crispy lardons, croutons, a poached egg and a warm vinegarette (that is the classic French way - I've also seen it with chopped up hard boiled egg & bacon!)

    - Asparagus will be in season, so serve this with some hollandaise sauce. Yum yum! Good if you have vegetarian guests so you don't have to think about a separate vegetarian starter. In fact, I might steal this one myself...

    - Black pudding with scallops - they go particularly well in my opinion. However, can be a bit on the pricey side.

I would look for something in season, fresh, and local. Maybe scour a local farmers market for ideas?

    (Yes, I like cooking!)
