Wedding business advice...

Moonbeam88, 10 September, 2014 at 13:30 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi ladies

I am currently planning my august 2016 wedding and absolutely love the whole creative side of planning colours, decor, themes and designs! So much so that I have had the wild thought of starting up my own wedding decor hire business specialising in pretty vintage props along with candy cart supplies, postboxes etc.

I know there are a lot of these sorts of companies out there and that competition is fierce. However weddings are big news these days and I can see it being something I would genuinely really enjoy.

My question really is have any of you brides used hire services for your wedding and what for? Is it something that appeals to you to hire a selection of items to save you time/money/storage?

Thoughts good and bad welcome please!

Thanks!

    Hi moonbeam88

I don't really have any business advice for you, other than you need a USP (unique selling point). As you said, wedding hire companies are ten a penny so if you're going to do it, try to do something very few others are doing or a wide variety of items not just based on one genre of wedding.

Personally I've really struggled to find hire companies for the sort of wedding paraphernalia I'm personally looking for (because I'm not looking for the pretty vintage stuff that every company does ?). My point is, if you can tap an untapped market you'll do well so try to think of ways you can stand out from all the other companies.

    Good luck ?

There is a huge difference between decorating your own wedding and turning this into a business.

As previously mentioned, competition is rife, business compete for the work and often undercut each other in the process. Not a good business model if you want to be around in 5-10 years time.

do your research. Find out what you offer that is new and different. Jump on that bandwGon before everyone else does. A venue dressing business will take a huge investment of both time and money. It's incredibly physical work setting up rooms in short time frames at venues and back breaking too. You will need so many different options as every bride is different and will always like something you haven't yet got!

Good do luck with this. But do lots and lots of research beforehand.

I have used a hire company, for chair covers, table centre pieces, table runners and swags, candy cart, photobooth, choc fountain, popcorn machine, post box. All of this has come from one company at a stupidly low price that I don't know how they can afford it. Is this the sort of info you were after? Good luck with the research and potential business!

We did but only because we had a certain amount allocated for centrepieces with this company included in our wedding package. We managed to get them to price match chair covers with a different company. They were going to charge £4.50 per chair and the other company was £2 so we were pleased they price matched.

If we had the budget we'd have also hired choc fountain or sweet cart and our tog did out photobooth or we'd have booked one of those too!

Agree with the others though, there are so many wedding hire companies and you really need to stand out.

Sure. My fiance and I are both quite geeky so we were looking for sci-fi/anime/movie memorabilia to decorate the rooms & tables with and hiring of some gaming equipment. I have found some stuff (not from dedicated wedding sites) but if there was one site where we could find that majority of that stuff we'd easily spend a small fortune with them.

I'm not suggesting you start a business based on something you don't personally like but there's very little out there for people like me and trust me when I say, I'm not the only one looking.... ?

    Hi!

I know of quite a few couples that have used wedding planners, there are loads of people who like to get as much help in as possible, good luck with everything. If you've found a passion you should definitely try and run with it!

Your idea for a wedding decor hire business sounds fantastic! Many couples love renting vintage props, candy carts, and unique table decor to save time, money, and storage space. It’s a great way to offer convenience and creativity. To stand out, consider offering personalized packages or one-of-a-kind items. You could also promote print on demand on Instagram to expand your reach and attract more clients with customized decor options. While the competition is strong, focusing on excellent customer service and quality pieces can set you apart. Best of luck with your venture – it sounds like a great fit for your passion!

Love your idea—weddings are the perfect combo of creativity and business potential. I actually helped a friend launch something similar, and one thing we didn’t expect was how much customer experience would shape word-of-mouth and bookings. We started reading Customer Experience Technology News, and it gave us super practical tips on using tech to improve service—like automated responses, inventory tracking, and even feedback systems. It’s been a huge help in making the business feel polished without losing that personal touch couples love. Definitely worth a look if you’re serious about starting something!

A wedding is an amazing event in a person's life. But not everyone is destined to find their true love. Everyone has their own desires and not everyone finds it easy to talk about them. It was hard for me too - I was afraid that they would judge or not understand. Then I found a special dating site for fetishists fetishgo.com . This is a completely different matter! People are immediately honest, you can calmly discuss preferences. Now I can't imagine how I tried to meet people without this.
