Wedding dress arrival date has been pushed back by several months.

Heya!

Just looking for some advice on this one, and to find out if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I ordered my wedding dress six months ago and paid a 50% deposit around the £2000 mark (perhaps a little pricey!) At the time of ordering I was informed the dress would take six to eight months to arrive, so I have been expecting a call fairly soon to say it is here. I also paid for an alteration package at the time that stipulates I must have my fittings at off peak times.

I rang them today to ask about ordering veils and they mentioned that my dress will not be arriving until 15 March 2018, eight weeks exactly before my wedding (and almost exactly a year since I ordered it!) I expressed that I was a little shocked, but didn't get into it as was so taken aback. I am going in next week to try veils, and thinking I should take it up with them then. Eight weeks seems very tight if something goes wrong, and I had expressed when ordering that my work schedule can be very intense so I may need to do my first fitting more towards the 10 week mark than eight.

I have also had some concerns that something has gone wrong somewhere as there have been a few red flags. I ordered a swatch when I ordered my dress and had to chase quite a few times several months later when it had not arrived. I also got a call a few weeks ago to say my veil had arrived, when I said I hadn't ordered one yet they realised they had two brides with the same name and had rung the wrong one. Now my dress is not arriving until the last minute when I ordered it over a year in advance, my spidey senses are tingling!

Has anyone ever experienced something like this? Would others also be a little worried?

Do you have anything in writing to say when the dress was originally due?

You're quite right to have concerns. To be honest when they said 6 months - it's normally 6 months if you pay for a rush cut so really they should have perhaps stipulated the 8+ months. I was planning my wedding in a short space of time (6 months) and the only way my dress would have been ready would have been a rush cut service and that would have been cutting it very fine for alterations so I think they have been presumptuous in their estimation.

If I were you I would go into the showroom to speak to them face to face as its going to be more obvious if they're holding back information. I would ask if they're giving you the correct advice about the dress or are they giving you advice regarding the other lady's dress?

As for your swatch - I got mine within a couple of weeks so that's really odd.

Definitely go in. My veil was supposed to be here last week - it hasn't arrived and I'm becoming a little prickly myself even though my dress hasn't been altered yet - I know how it feels to just want everything in place.

I'm sure it will all be fine, but double check just to help your stress levels!!

Just had a look over the paperwork and unfortunately the paper work is pretty vague on this. Just didn't think of it at the time!

Thank you! I realise that a lot of it is mainly about stress levels and it will all be fine, but as you say, you can't help but get a little prickly.

I am going into the store on Monday so I think I will try and resolve what is going on then. More than anything I would just really like some honesty, what worries me more is the feeling that they are hiding something. While the six months would have been quite quick, I think a whole year for the dress is a little too long, so I just want to understand why that decision has been made without consulting me or whether something has gone wrong.

I hope your veil arrives soon!
