wedding dress cleaning

now a mrs, 20 May, 2009 at 14:35 Posted on Planning 0 3

Hi, I've not been on here for ages - moved over to baby talk after our wedding.

Anyway to cut a long story short can anyone recommend a dry cleaners that cleans and boxes up wedding dresses please? Mine is currently still in the bag on top of our wardrobe but I really do need to get it sorted as hubby keep moaning at me about it.

Many thanks ?

I used boxedbridal.co.uk, just waiting for my dress to be delivered back to me

My H auntie works in a wedding dress shop and she told me so long as the dress is not silk or has silk in it (which it wasn't) then bung it in the washing machine!! This is what they do with all the samples!! I did look at the care instructions on the label on my dress and it says wash inside out at 40 degrees!

I'm too scared to try it though as the bodice of my dress is covered in swarovski crystals and I'm too worried about them falling off and breaking my washing machine, plus I'm not too sure my dress would fit in as it was huge and had a very long train!! My H couldn't walk beside me in the church when we went back into the vestry to sign the resgistrar cos my dress took up the whole width of the corridor?

Currently I'm still looking for a good dry cleaners in the North Down area to do my dress plus, my H stood on my train and put a hole in it so I need somewhere to fix that too!!

    Good luck with search!

    Luv Victoria

I put mine in the washing machine too, inside out inside a duvet cover, lowest temp and liquid detergent, came out gorgeous and smells wonderful and fresh.

My dress only cost £180, i had a quote for dry cleaning and boxing, from johnsons, but it was £130, which seemed daft, almost as much as the dress, and as my 3yr old had spilt lots of food on the train, had to do something or else it would have gone mouldy, so stuck it in the machine, and dried it on the line.

tbh not sure i'd have done it with a more expensive dress though?
