WEDDING DRESS FOR THE MATURE BRIDE

ExpensiveIvoryFlowers498, 17 January, 2016 at 20:20 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi

I will be almost 52 when I get married for a second time in June 2017 and am struggling to find a suitable dress as all the shops seem to cater for the younger and slimmer bride! I have read some posts from 2013 where a lady bought a dress from China and despite a few problems was satisfied with it over all. I therefore wondered if any one had had any recent experience of dresses from China as they seem to show more suitable dresses on their sites - ie with sleeves! I am not sure I really want to go down this road but the only other option seems to be having something made in the UK but the costs are very high. Any other ideas would be welcome.

Many thanks

No China experience in afraid but you might be surprised what looks good on you. I married last week in Lapland. I thought at first an A line dress with some sort of sleeve. They looked awful on me! I finally went to a bridal shop (which I had been avoiding like the plague) and she convinced me to try a mermaid style. With no sleeves. I loved the dress and my oh still hadn't stopped commenting on how stunning he thought I looked. I'm 58 and a size 14/16. Curves in abundance! If you want to see some pictures my report is probably still on the first page of threads. It was also in a sample sale so 400.00 for a 1450.00 dress which was even better.

My advise would be to try different things on as you might be surprised what suits. I know exactly what you mean about arms in your 50s and can honestly say I haven't rejected any of my photos due to arm issues etc.

I agree try as many styles as you can you will be surprised. You could always add a lace jacket to a dress without sleeves if you felt you needed the cover.

I would also try different styles to see which ones suit your figure. I didn't want a strapless one and favoured lace over satin but ended up wearing a strapless satin one with a lace bolero. The only thing I got right was that I wanted an A line dress.

I haven't ordered a Wedding Dress from China before, but I have ordered clothes from there via ebay.

The sleeves are usually very snug. I'm a size 10-12 and don't have particularly fat arms (in my opinion anyway) and I really struggle!

As others have said, I think adding a lace jacket would work really well for you, but I think you should go to a Bridal store just to see how different dresses look on you Smiley smile

I hate the backless and sleeveless trends too... modesty clothing in general (clothes that cover the shoulders) are hard to find at all now a days ☹️

probably no use to you but I just bought my dress off a fashion clothing store but its not a 'bridal' dress... im getting custom made accessories that will make it more bridal-y - the highstreet tend to have more sleeves

im not sure what you looking for but here are some uk dress suggestions:
