Wedding dress help!

Catherine, 17 January, 2021 at 10:30 Posted on Planning 1 23
Hi ladies,

My partner and I are getting married in September and I hadn’t yet picked a dress owing to lockdown, tiers, etc. I was getting stressed about it so have looked online extensively and found just one dress that ticked all the boxes. A stockist sent it home for me to try and I love it just as much on. However, the sample dress was a size 8 US so UK 10, which is my size. But it felt really tight on my rib cage and I feel a bit self-conscious about it on my stomach. My brother has also commented that “it’s not flattering around the midriff” and I’m panicking. I’ve attached some photos for you to see.
I haven’t yet ordered it but was going to. However I definitely don’t want to feel fat on my wedding day. Would this be down to wedding dress sizing? Would the correct size and fit eradicate this problem or is it just the style of the dress? Attached some pictures for you to see.Wedding dress help! 1Wedding dress help! 2

It looks stunning on you, but you definitely don't want it to feel uncomfortably tight around the ribs - I'd order a size up and get it altered down to fit more comfortably.

Just a heads up for you that you have included your face clearly visible and the images posted on here can be indexed by google meaning they could show up in a search so people will potentially be seeing you in your dress. Smiley love

Thank you, I will definitely be ordering a size up but I’m wondering if this type of dress will still show a tummy or whether it’s just because it’s too tight?

Thanks, that’s a good point. I can’t seem to find out how to delete it though, do you know how?

You only have a limited time to edit a post before the "Edit" option disappears. Not sure how long it actually is.

Its only a slim chance but if people are searching - your area and similar other key words that you have mentioned and then search images it could come up.

Thanks, yep I think it’s unlikely but just to be on the safe side I’ll delete it. I’ve sent a message to Hitched so fingers crossed they’ll take it down!

It could just be where it is tight on your ribs its making everything seem bigger to you. You dont look fat at all the dress suits you and you look stunning in it.

I think you look beautiful and not fat at all. The style of the dress is very figure hugging and that may be what makes you feel a bit nervous but I would say it does suit you and isn’t unflattering at all. I am way too conscious over my stomach area to wear a dress like this but looks stunning on you. Think I will have to go for a ball gown or a line shape as I don’t think I can pull it off as well as you haha

You look lovely and seriously your comfort is as important as the look of the dress. I always say plan for where you are now in terms of weight etc as it’s also kinder to your mind. Planning for September too and there already enough pressure as it is to make it all work out ?

The more stresses you can avoid the better, good luck!

I'm not seeing any tummy - just some very enviable curves. I'm guessing you're not used to wearing anything that tight fitting? Your figure looks amazing, but if you're not comfortable, talk to the seamstress to see if it can be made a little looser around the tummy area.

Aww thank you so much. That’s what I was thinking, should I just go for a ball gown but I really like this style of dress.

Thank you. That’s what I’m thinking! I’ve since determined that it’s a size too small for me but the size up is still a bit lower than my measurements on the waist.

Aww thank you so much! Yes you’re right there, I never wear tight fitting clothes. Thanks, that’s a good idea. I’ve since determined that it’s a size too small but the waist on the size up is still smaller than mine.

If you like the style of dress then I think you should stick with it. You could consider going 2 sizes up and get it taken in wherever it’s too big. May give you more peace of mind to know it’s been amended to fit you perfectly x

Thanks, I definitely think it’s more me than a ballgown/A line. I’ve done my measurements and they’re all the size up so I’m going with two sizes up just to be sure.

You look stunning with that dress, now if you can just have your tailor readjust it to your measurement, then that would be great! Congratulations on your wedding!

There is no need to worry about you figure. The curves you are seeing are ones anyone would show off. And lets face it, your brother will never see you that way!

I would kill to look like that in a fitted dress!

But you should also remember that you are going to eat a meal during the day and sitting for long periods. So I would seriously consider one size bigger.

So if you are still unsure, go for a bigger size and some pretty supportive lingerie! x
