Wedding dress outlets

WideEyedWonder, 13 April, 2015 at 21:32 Posted on Planning 0 24

Hi everybody Smiley smile long time lurker, finally got engaged a couple of weeks ago so I feel I can post legitimately now! I've been to three bridal shops now and although I've decided on a style, I wasn't taken by anything; up until I tried some on I've always hated wedding dresses, so I wasn't expecting that 'wow' moment! However, I've been blown away by a band and am willing to sacrifice a large chunk of my dress budget to have them at my wedding Smiley smile so I just wanted to know what my chances are of finding a lace dress at an outlet for around £500?! I think the closest one to me is in Northallerton, so if anybody has any experience in particular then that'd be great! x

I haven't been to the one in Northallerton but did see it on facebook and considered a trip there, however, i've found someone is making a dress for me that I love and it will be pretty much exactly the same as the designer one i tried.

I did recently visit a wed2b outlet (not sure if there is one near you) and they had quite a few lacy dresses all under £500.

I'd say its worth a try if you can get to one of the bridal outlets.

Ooh that sounds promising, and there's one in Bolton so that's not too far! Thanks Miss-KEM!

I actually got my dress from an outlet at the weekend! It has got some lace on it but they had lots of different styles in different sizes. I think they are definitely worth a trip after my experience.
Mine ended up being a bit more than your budget at £699 but they varied in price. I went to a place based in Burton upon Trent called The bridal and prom dress outlet. They also have a Facebook page and website.

I don't know if it's the one you're thinking of but I went to one in Northallerton with a friend and she didn't have the best experience. There wasn't a lot available in her size and the staff member helping her wasn't listening to what she wanted at all. It was a while ago now and I can't remember what the prices were like. If it's not far from you it might still be worth a try though.

WideEyedWonder, I'm planning to go to the Bolton one first - it's only two minutes walk from where I work! Not that I'm planning to pop in on my lunch hour or anything, but I was so pleased to find that there's one so nearby!

I've been to the Northallerton outlet and I wouldn't advise it. Although they had quite a wide range of styles and sizes you certainly don't get anywhere near a nice bridal experience. I went with my sister and thy basically gave us some tokens and told us to put them onto dresses I was interested in trying. But you're not allowed to take the dresses out of their bags which made it difficult to determine the style and size of the dresses you were looking at. When it came to trying on I was taken into one big changing room where there were three other women trying dresses on. You're then taken out to large podiums in front of everyone to show the person/people you're with. I'm not particularly self conscious so I didn't find this too bad but people were certainly making comments about every bride who stepped out. It was a world away from the experience I've had in other bridal shops, most places make the experience very special for the bride and her party. You will probably be able to find a dress in a sample sale at most bridal shops, I bought my first dress in a sale for £550. Hope that helps x

Would you consider buying second hand? I found THE dress in a shop and then purchased it second hand on eBay for £600 (rather than £1000 in the shop)

I'd highly recommend the store where I bought mine off the peg, but it's in Liverpool if you can get there? Copplestones Bridal, £400. Have a look through my other posts I've posted it on here before, a lacy mermaid style one, it is a designer but I keep forgetting to check the name ha ha. They buy off surplus stock end of season and sell it on at massively reduced prices. They also have an in-house seamstress for alterations

    PS Congratulations on your engagement!

Anybody bought /looked at dress from wed2b? Their website looks promising but are the dresses really good? It's quite a drive from where I live now and don't want to waste fuel.

You have a great chance for £500! But it doesn't have to be an outlet, there are some local specialists that do amazing bargains. Try The Wedding Shop at Selby and Wedding Belles at Otley.

Thanks for all your help Smiley smile good to hear about the mixed reviews about Northallerton, I think I'll still go for a look, but have low expectations about the service! I'll also look into the other places mentioned, but pleased to know it's do-able within my budget!!

I went to the one in Bolton and I'm sure the top price was £450! They leave you to find dresses you like on your own and then just help you into them, which was ideal for me, I eventually got my (first) dress from a brial shop in otley though for £99, although that one wasn't lace. But the bridal outlet in Bolton deffiently had some lace ones in my size, and it can't hurt to look!

Hi I purchased my wedding dress from the bridal factory in Northallerton on the 27th December 2014 and I had a great experience. I was greeted by all the staff upon arriving and as I was first bride to be in the shop that morning i was given my own changing room. I was shown around and told where each style of dress was in the store and given tickets to put on the dresses I wanted to try on. All the dress are covered in see through bags with sizes and prices on. They were busy but Jill who was looking after me was great. She actually picked out the dress I bought! I paid £595 for my dress as there was a £100 off promotion at the time. I bought the mori Lee 1903 which retails at over £1000. I also received a card with a lucky sixpence in it for my shoe. I would definitely recommend going there.

Hi, I went to wed2b the outlet in Bolton. I was quite anxious about dress shopping because I'm an older bride and a size 16\18. I have to say the choice In my size was great, i particularly wanted something with straps and that limited me more than size. You do have to browse the racks and choose your own dresses which I was happy to do. I'd seen a particular dress on their website which I couldn't see, they were really helpful and found it in the stockroom. The girls were really helpful helping me to try on. I bought a lovely lace dress from their viva bridecollection at just over £400.

    Worth a visit for sure!

    Congrats and welcome to hitched!

Many charity shops have specialist bridal shops. They get new end of line, samples etc, so its not all 80's style 2nd hand dresses with puffy sleeves! Found these links, but it might be worth calling the british heart foundation, barnados, PDSA etc:

Hey ladies, just to let you know that I made it to the Northallerton outlet today and bought my dress!! It's a Mori Lee and I actually saw another girl try it on who spent half an hour deliberating whether to buy it (I was praying she'd walk away so I could try it!), and as soon as she left to think about it I took my chance and tried it. So pleased I managed to find one I loved, and for the grand total of £625 with a belt thrown in! Attached some photos, but it actually looks nicer in real life Smiley smile

That is awsome dress! Smiley smile I can imagine how happy you are Smiley smile

I went to Bolton Wed2B this weekend and it was AMAZING! I love the store and girls there and that was a great day (not just the shopping but I will not bore you here with out of topic Smiley tongue )

I haven't decided yet but there are some dresses I really really liked. I need to think carefully about my budget and then will buy a dress. One I liked was 150 (yes, one hundred fifty pounds!) and two others something over 400 (I'm terrible, I can never remember the exact price. I think one was 449 and one slightly less). And they are really good, nice materials, they have lace, satin, something I don't know the name... Smiley winking

I'm really happy and at ease that I will have my pretty "dream dress" (ha ha) within my budget without compromising for second hand.

I took a look at some bridesmaids dresses and I liked many of them too. But it's not my decision Smiley winking

I really recommend them. They said they are opening new shops soon, I think they said Southampton. I will probably definitely be going there (Bolton) again in future and hopefully will buy a dress Smiley smile

Oh wow, £150 is a bargain! I was going to go to Bolton but when I rang they said they didn't have many size tens and to wait a couple of weeks til their next delivery. As it is I don't need to go after all, but good luck with your next trip there Smiley smile
