Wedding dress seamstress

Weddingjuly2023, 18 November, 2022 at 22:15 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 4
Hi everyone,

I've spoke to a couple of streamstresses about my wedding dress and I'm confused as to what to do! One of them said they won't be comfortable altering my dress until at least 6 weeks before the wedding Incase I have any weight changes. The other said that they would start in February.
Personally, I am planning on losing a little bit of weight/toning up and maybe losing a dress size by then, nothing drastic though!
When would you recommend getting your wedding dress altered before your wedding?

I was told by the shop I got my dress, they will do an alterations appointment 3 months before the wedding - means the seamstress has time to do it and means I'm not panicking thinking it won't be ready in time. x

It depends how much alteration is needed and also what kind of service you go with. A dress shop that is dealing with multiple wedding dresses is going to have a fairly set timetable for alterations to ensure they can fit everyone in. An independent dressmaker is likely to be more flexible. So I don't think either of the timeframes you've been given are 'wrong', it's just down to personal preference/cost as to which one you go with.

My seamstress said 6-8 weeks prior, getting married 2 May and booked in for first fit 4 March.

She also said the same as what you have been told.

Mine said 8 weeks for initial fitting and works then another appointment for 4 weeks before just to double check it's all okay. She also said if it's still not quite right on the second appointment then she will schedule another fitting before the day. I think it's pretty normal so I would try not to worry Smiley smile
