Have you tried House of Frasers, John Lewis and Debenhams? HoF has a big bridal section and I don't think you need an appointment but might be wrong.

I think the shop behind the St Enoch's is called Bridal path (sneaked a wee look in their window on the way past the other day, lol).

There's also a small but nice looking shop on the street where the tesco metro side door is. I don't know the street name but it's perpendicular to Argyll street.

    Good luck and have fun!

It's Angelic Lamont I think but they don't do off the peg unless you get a sample. I didn't go to Berketex so don't know about that either.

I just suggested Frasers etc because you said you wanted off the peg but if you want to order a designer dress then there are heaps of shops in Glasgow you can try. Why not just give them a call and ask about appts?

thats just what i'll do, i dont really want to order one as i said incase the place goes bust (really optimistic attitude i know ?) but as i've only got 8mths i just want one less thing to worry about and it would hopefully keep the cost down too.

the shop your talking about jen is anne pricilla, i've been a regular in there for the last year since my friend got married and my sil to be ordered her dress and our bm dresses, kinda sick of that place now!

i'm off to find my yellow pages!

I know it is worrying with shops going bust but try not to worry too much because the chances of it happening are slim.

I can't think of anymore off the peg shops sorry. Let us know how you get on.

When i was in glasgow telling the in laws we were engaged, i popped into berketex who suggested i would need an appt to try dresses on. they had loads and loads of dresses so i would pop in there for a nose at least.

(what PG says about the shops going bust is right - chances are slim, but just make sure you get wedding insurance just in case)

    Hi Tia

I bought my dress straight off the peg and no appointments are required from Panache in Glasgow. The shop is across the road from the entrance to Bhs. THe service was excellent and I ended up buying my BM dresses from there too. Also becasue I bought it the day I seen it they gave me 50% off the dress which was great and I ended up getting my dress at a bragain price. Because it was a sample dress they are also going to steam clean and fix any loose threads for nothing. The sales girls are really nice and not once did I feel under pressure to buy anything.

    Hi

Yeah it's on Stockwell street. The shop had loads, I tried on about 7 or 8 styles before I found mine and I just knew I had to have it. I think the lady makes some of the dresses herself so they might not have as much selection as Berketex or the bigger shops. I also know that they try to keep all the dresses that they make about/under £800 so I didn't need to worry about falling in love with a dress that was way over my budget! I went with my BMs and one has learning diffculties and they were so helpful and obliging about making space for us that I would recomend them to anyone.

    Happy shopping x

We're not in Glasgow, we're in Fife, but we do have a number of ex-sample dresses available. They're not on the shop floor at the moment, so we'd need prior notice of which ones you'd want to try on, so we can make sure they come out of storage for you, but if you are interested, then give us a bell. You can send us your measurements (bust, waist and hip), and then we can send you a list of the dresses we have available in your size. If you wanted to then make an appointment to try any on, you can let us know and we'll sort it out for you.

Shop is Aliya Rose in cupar - www.aliyarose.co.uk

If you do decide to order a dress from somewhere, rather than buying off the peg, my advice would be:

    1) Credit card will be the safest way to pay your deposit, but check with your credit card company what the situation is if you pay a deposit and then the company goes out of business before your dress arrives. Then you know beforehand what the situation is.

    2) Ask for the dress to be brought in as soon as possible. We usually have dresses come in approx 3 months before a wedding date, but if asked we will bring them in sooner than that. All dress manufacturers have different delivery times, but the shortest of ours are about 12-16 weeks. With 8 months to spare, that should give you plenty of time to have a dress brought in, and if the worst happened, there would still be time to sort out an alternative.

    3) Pay your balance and take the dress home as soon as it has arrived with the shop. Once it is paid for, it is your property, so there's no reason why you shouldn't take it away.

Probably a bit late to add my two pence worth in but never mind! I got my dress from Roberta Buchan, great service and good selection of dresses. Not that it matters much these days but the shop has been there for years, I got my flowergirl dress for my uncle's wedding about 22 years ago! Would also recommend June Brides if you decide to go down the bridal shop route. HTH
