Grace, 9 January, 2025 at 13:23 Posted on Wedding Attire 1 11
I’ve recently lost 7stone, and I’m due to get married July 2026, I’m panicking that I won’t be able to get a wedding dress to fit me or I’ll have to go up 3 sizes bigger which I know I’ll be disappointed I’m a uk size 14 and the thought of wedding dress shopping terrifies me!! When would it be a suitable time to go and find a wedding dress I’ve also got another 3 stone to loose before I’m confident and comfortable

I went wedding dress shopping in October for a June wedding and the lady in the shop told me then that I would need to make up my mind quickly if I wanted a wide choice and didn't want to have to pay rush order fees. So I would say you have at least got 4-5 months before you start panicking. However, it might be worth starting to dress shop now, just to get an idea of what you like - and don't stress about it. People put so much pressure on themselves to find 'the dress', but just keep reminding yourself that although it is a special dress it is still just a dress that you will be wearing for one day - it's really not worth losing sleep over!

If you plan to lose an additional 3 stone fnaf , consider starting your shopping after you've reached your target weight. However, keep in mind that many dresses can be altered. Most wedding dresses can be altered to fit your body. It’s common for brides to buy a dress that is slightly larger and then have it tailored closer to the wedding date.

Totally understand this - I think 12 months out is plenty for most boutiques. Also do not focus on the size on the tag - they are honestly so messed up. The girl in the boutique I bought my dress was teeny tiny and said she struggled to get into some of the samples (which are all a "12") and they all vary so much. For context I'm on the smaller side of a UK 14 (can squeeze into a 12 occasionally) and my dress is a size 18. I'm also planning to lose another 2 stone before my wedding in September and they said that would be absolutely fine for alterations. I honestly think the best thing is to find a dress you feel beautiful in and f**k the size cause it's not a reflection of a) how you look or b) all the hard work you've already put in! And just remember your fiancé loves you just the way you are - how lucky are we! x

Hi Grace! Wow sounds like you’ve done great - well done!
I recently went on my first wedding dress shop experience - how daunting! Nowadays they can do as many alterations as many times as you need. Most places told me it may take 4/5 months to order etc, so I would definitely start now! Hope that helps x

First of all, congratulations on your weight loss—that's an incredible achievement! For wedding dress shopping, it’s best to start around 6-9 google baseball months before your wedding date, so around October 2025. This gives you time to find the right dress and make any necessary alterations as you continue your weight loss journey. Remember, many bridal shops can work with you on adjustments, and they often have options for various sizes. Focus on enjoying the experience, and trust that you’ll find something beautiful that makes you feel confident!
